1911 .45 query....

Re: 1911 .45 query....
I sold my Nighthawk Talon II 9mm to fund a venture. Hope to set aside enough for a Wilson lightweight railed 5" in 9mm.

Re: 1911 .45 query....
I can see having a .22LR 1911 for training/plinking/introducing the kids to shooting. But the idea of a 9mm 1911 seems, I dunno, eurogay.Grandpa's Spells wrote:
OTOH, I shot a Nighthawk 1911 in 9mm and it was stoopid how fun that gun was.

If you're not going to set up to reload, 9mm is ~65% the cost of .45ACP for training rounds.

If you get three gun owners together, the only thing they'll all agree on is the other two guys guns are pieces of shit.

I've never handled a custom Hi-Power but I have shot one with a decent trigger job, the magazine disconnect taken care of and a ring hammer to cut down on hammer bite.DARTH wrote:^Then stop being a faggot about it and get a Hi-Power.
No love. It shot... fine? I dunno, nothing about it seemed worthy of recommendation - there are ten double-stack 9s I'd recommend first.
Ergonomically, the 1911 is amazing. Seems to fit everyone (at least men) from small hands to XL comfortably, even the most basic trigger is 'good,' well-placed thumb safety for a proper thumbs high grip. It's almost astonishing how well such an old design stands up.
The only guns that handle as well to a broad mass of people are, IMO, the CZ75 (and descendants) and M&P.

CZ- is just a double/single action Hi Power.

This is what I like about the 1911....so far this thread has convinced me a mid grade pistol is fine. I'll still prefer to carry my revolver over any of my autos, single or double stack.

I think the High Power is even better than the 1911 in that respect- I've put it in the hands of a woman who was complaining she couldn't hold any full-size gun and reach the trigger and she was astounded to find it working for her.milosz wrote: Ergonomically, the 1911 is amazing. Trigger- OK, it's not a 1911 trigger. but it's easily made plenty good for carry. Target guys may well be pickier.
That being said, I still want a 1911. If Ruger made one blued I'd go for it. As it stands I'll probably get a Colt, perhaps next year.

The Ruger 1911 is your huckleberry.
Re: 1911 .45 query....
While we're on the 1911 topic here has anyone had any experiences good or bad with the 10 rd 1911 mags. I'm considering a purchase but wont bother if the they're not reliable.

I have a Chip McCormack " Power of Ten" mag that feeds sweet, it's my in the gun mag.
I had to cheaper ones that slid too far up in my gun and when I finally got the one out I threw both of those in the trash.
So 10s can be nice but don't be cheap about it.

Re: 1911 .45 query....
I haven't tried one because of rumored lack of reliability. My favorite magazines so far are the 8-round CMC Powermag. They've been more reliable in my pre-series II Kimber than Wilson Combat, 7-round factory mags, or the Colt with hybrid feed lips.Mr Clean wrote:While we're on the 1911 topic here has anyone had any experiences good or bad with the 10 rd 1911 mags. As for 1911 brands, my only experience is with the old Kimber and Springfield Armory. The Kimber has never had a problem. The Springfield EMP is great now, but it required two trips before their customer service made up for the failures of their assembly line.

Re: 1911 .45 query....
I've bought, sold and traded five 1911's over the years. All were good, but I never felt they were all that. My favorite was a Springfield Mil-Spec that I had the Springfield shop work over to a Custom Carry model. I still have a couple of .45's though. A Smith N-Frame .45ACP revolver and a Glock 21. That said, I shoot .38 Special and 9mm the most.Blaidd Drwg wrote:milosz wrote:Ergonomically, the 1911 is amazing. Re: 1911 .45 query....
I have a Para 1445 with an arched mainspring housing and I've shot that thing a ton (single stack 1911s with the flat mainspring housing actually feel weird to me). The funniest thing about the 1911 is the fact that its immediate predecessor as a service pistol was the Colt SAA. The 1911 must've seemed like some sort of alien technology to the first wave of users.

To the contrary. The Colt M1892 chambered in .38 Long Colt was standard issue between the SAA and 1911.losabio wrote:I have a Para 1445 with an arched mainspring housing and I've shot that thing a ton (single stack 1911s with the flat mainspring housing actually feel weird to me). Plus by the time the 1911 was actually in service, semi-autos of some sort had been in use for 15 to 20 years. Civilians adopted them well before the US Army.

You want a gun that looks like alien tech, get a Mauser C96.
