Is someone appearing on a conspiracy/supernatural-oriented talk show legit?

Is that the question?

Yes. A great percentage of the guests have questionable ideas at best. Ten to twenty percent
are what I would call "normal people".

I only heard about 15 minutes of her being interviewed. She gave an example of being
asked would two or more people following identical diets and exercise regimes
lose the exact same amount of weight. That was assuming that weight loss was the goal
for everyone involved. She said no.

I realize that the above is simplistic, but her point was that metabolism differs in people.

She also mentioned treating triathletes that developed metabolic syndrome.

Some of what she said coincides with some of Timothy Noakes ideas, but she is not a high fat-
lo carb proponent like him.

FWIW...which is probably not much..Sounds like this is a Doc who runs a fat loss clinic. Can;t see what else she offers in terms of VO max testing and stuff but her trendy and extremely expensive location tells me she is not terribly interested in medicine and more interested in well healed enduro clients who pay cash for treatment.

As a patient of Dr. Cooper's for over a year, I started out with the same high opinions as everyone else. Dr. Cooper seemed like the only person who could help me with a severe metabolic issue, and I trusted her treatment plan wholeheartedly when she said it would likely take six months to a year in order to recover. I dedicated myself to it and she seemed like she knew what she was doing, as she would change my treatment every 6 weeks based on blood tests.

At the end of the year, I asked Dr. Cooper why I hadn't seen any positive changes in my body, because I was fatter, more unhealthy, and more tired than ever. My bodyfat had skyrocketed from 24% to 35% because not only was I eating more, but I was also forbidden to exercise. She then told me that it might take 5 years to recover, a far cry from 6 mos to a year. .....

I ran out of Topamax, an anti-seizure medication, and went off it cold turkey. I suffered from brain zaps, which feels like electricity going through your head, for months and felt crazy, along with hot and cold sweats. With my appointment with a new endocrinologist weeks away, it was extremely scary. It's also against the law, as a doctor is required to provide care & referrals for a minimum of 30 days after a discharge.
........................

Needless to say, I would NOT recommend her for continuous, long-term treatment, especially if your "out of the box" treatment plan ends up not working. My new doctor says that the treatments Dr. Cooper used are untested and unproven to do anything, and often the treatment (eg, powerful anti-seizure medication for a metabolic issue) with its side effects is worse than the cure.

I could be wrong. She clearly has a money train rolling there. I know a bunch of people in that sport community, I'll ask around. I fell prey to one of those sports orthotics can fix everything types of PT clinics when I wrecked my knees. Dumped and boatload of money into all manner of stuff including paying for a bike fit session for Lance's PT. At this point, I disregard Docs as much as possible (except orthos) they seem to know less about how the body works than anyone else. A solid NP and a Veterinarian is all I need.

EDIT: Her website finally stopped crashing. I have to applaud her for devoting her energy to working with a population for whom diet and exercise don't work. That must be incredibly hard having a client base of ZERO people.

So, I was on topomax for six months for migraines and lost about 25 lbs during that time. Later found out that they give it to people on antidepressants who can't lose weight because the weight loss side effect is so powerful. But, it has some other powerful side effects that really suck and I wouldn't recommend it being used in this off label way unless you were so obese your health was in jeopardy. My sisters doc tried to prescribe it to her for weight loss and I told her she needed a new doc.

Agreed with your synopsis of her location and probable clientele. But you lost me with NP. There are no solid NPs.

I have yet to meet one who wasn't significantly better at med care than any doctor I have ever had. The one who stitched me up after my last mistake had experience in Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan and just retired from Xe.

NP = Nurse Practitioner, not Naturopathic Physician.
