That's all I'm saying. If this approach is good enough for a guy protecting his family, it's good enough for a fish and wildlife agent who's funded by that guy's tax dollars.Batboy2/75 wrote:Pinky wrote:That's an attitude fostered by people spending someone else's money.
How many people who buy their own ammo do that? And how many women and novices (or anyone) can tell whether the bullet leaving their barrel is Federal's latest and greatest vs. a cheap FMJ of the same weight with a similar amount of powder pushing it?
The answer is to test both; shoot both for practice- 90% ball to 10% HP, and carry HP. Everyone of my handguns is matched with HP ammo that I know will run flawlessly. However, it's friggin expensive, so most of my practice is will surplus ball ammo.

Re: Gov't agencies purchasing huge quantities of ammo
The deal the gov't gets on carry ammo is so good it might as well be fmj. I could buy federal bple +p+ 115gr for dirt cheap when I was a fed, and the 147gr federal hs 9mm was so cheap FBI agents were giving it to me. With my own money I bought the best hp ammo at LEO-only stores because it was almost as cheap as ball ammo. Just sayin.

You do throw some SD ammo down the pipe from time to time when you shoot? It's a good idea to run at least 1 mag of it so you see if it hits on a different impact/point of aim besides the feeding issue.
A cheap nearly as good method for making sure it feeds is to load a mag and viloently rack the slide repetitively, this should tell you if your going to have ramping/throating feeding issues do to the bullets shape and your guns ramp and chamber. I was shown that trick back in the Shooter's Emporium days. I did it a few times where I did that and then went to the range and it works pretty good.
Did it with my Glock 19 and some HP I got from Hugo Stiglitz a couple of weeks ago. Did 2 mags and blasted of a tripple tap in the woods.

Re: Gov't agencies purchasing huge quantities of ammo
I don't doubt that HST is almost as cheap for the Feds as ball ammo is for the rest of us, but I'll bet they could also buy ball ammo for a lot less than we do.

Re: Gov't agencies purchasing huge quantities of ammo
Absolutely. I've made sure that both of my pistols work with their carry ammo, and I rotate rounds that have been carried into the ammo I shoot at the range.DARTH wrote:Pinky wrote:That's all I'm saying. Re: Gov't agencies purchasing huge quantities of ammo
Sure. But the cost for good carry ammo for LEO's at a LEO-only store is very, very cheap. I could buy a 50 pack for cheaper than a 20 pack for civilians. Cheap enough to justify training with the real stuff. I can tell you that ATF was so serious about using "real" feeling ammo for training that the cheapest training ammo it bought was frangible +p stuff that cost as much or more than their carry ammo.Pinky wrote:I don't doubt that HST is almost as cheap for the Feds as ball ammo is for the rest of us, but I'll bet they could also buy ball ammo for a lot less than we do.

I'd be much more concerned if these agencies were buying large quantities of rifle ammo.

Re: Gov't agencies purchasing huge quantities of ammo
That is interesting, mostly because you're not necessarily talking about massive bulk orders. I would love to see the manufacturers' sales numbers. There would be a good story in them.davidc wrote:Sure. But the cost for good carry ammo for LEO's at a LEO-only store is very, very cheap. BINGO! It's actually good to see them buying more pistol amo for their people. If someone is going to carry a gun on their job they should practice with the damn thing.
If I was a cop I'd shoot almost every week.

If you were a cop you'd end up on the Officer Friendly thread, convicted soon after and someone's fuckbag in a federal facility not long after that.DARTH wrote:Batboy2/75 wrote:I'd be much more concerned if these agencies were buying large quantities of rifle ammo.

It was funny.
I did have an in with a department here 10 years back through a Dojo mate who was a Capt. in a department with a rep for being fighters (that's why he wanted me) and it was one of the reasons I did not do it. Some fucks need to be beaten like dogs to learn manners. SOme fucks need to be driven out of town and shot in the head and thrown in a ditch. You can't be Bud White anymore.
That and having to bust people for shit I've done, having to take dudes in because they slapped a cunt who needed it and the fact that alot of cops are bitches who rat on each other are others.

i drove past this afternoon and all i saw on the sidewalks were hippies and frat boys but it is likely very diverse. I think the drug war is evil incarnate but marijuana itself holds no appeal. Has some mild performance enhancing benefits and used to help me sleep but social use is just hella boring.
edit: the crowd did appear truly massive from what I saw

Diverse my ass!
All I saw was hipsters and their unwashed hippie cousins. Bunch of fucking clowns going on about how hemp will save the world, everyone in prison is there because of pot, and how DuPont is behind all of the drug laws.
This morning I was drinking coffee and reading the news in a Starbucks not to far from a train station with people headed into Seattle for that clown show. Got into a conversation with some deluded fool that not only looked like Eddie Bravo, but just like Eddie, wouldn't shut the fuck up about pot. He was surprised when I told him to stop lying about pot and try telling the fucking truth. I told him "It's a fucking plant, with some minor medical properties and it's effects are no more harmless than booze. That alone should be the reason for legalizing it. Rambling on about crack pot theories does nothing but turn off people that are smart enough to know better. "He seemed shocked at my directness and wondered off to beat on a drum, play hacky sack, or what ever gay ass activity those losers engage in while working their minimum wage jobs or collecting unemployment.
Anyway, I fucking hate Seattle and King County. Thank God I live outside of that mad house. Seattle is like a live version of the website " what white people like". Soft, over credentialed, over civilized, douchebags. A generation away from working for West or East Asian overlords.
BTW- I'm quite popular in Seattle. Here is a pic of my TDI golf with my special hello for the ohh so sensitive Seattle douche bags. I love it when some douche drives by, flipping me the bird; all while they are driving a brand new Land Rover with an Occupy WallStreet bumper sticker. Seriously, I saw this last week. Seattle is ground zero of ironic scenes like this.

Fuck you Seattle.
