Actually, there were, but I think we can probably agree that this election and these candidates are different. I finally deleted my account in the past few days. Facebook is a major time waster for me filled with superficial communication at best.

i believe it will pass. For a while, up until the first illegals get sent home. They say Obama sent more home than anyone else - I don't know if that's true, but I know that in NM, they spend a lot on it... Want a good paying job? Work at a detention center.

My mom, bless her heart, believes anything shared with her on facebook, especially anti-Clinton or pro-Trump. It makes me cringe. This article in the Washington Post is so true...
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the ... ge%2Fstory
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the ... ge%2Fstory
You’ve been writing fake news for a while now — you’re kind of like the OG Facebook news hoaxer. Well, I’d call it hoaxing or fake news. You’d call it parody or satire. How is that scene different now than it was three or five years ago? Why did something like your story about Obama invalidating the election results (almost 250,000 Facebook shares, as of this writing) go so viral?
Honestly, people are definitely dumber. They just keep passing stuff around. Nobody fact-checks anything anymore — I mean, that’s how Trump got elected. He just said whatever he wanted, and people believed everything, and when the things he said turned out not to be true, people didn’t care because they’d already accepted it. It’s real scary. I’ve never seen anything like it.
You mentioned Trump, and you’ve probably heard the argument, or the concern, that fake news somehow helped him get elected. What do you make of that?
My sites were picked up by Trump supporters all the time. I think Trump is in the White House because of me. His followers don’t fact-check anything — they’ll post everything, believe anything. His campaign manager posted my story about a protester getting paid $3,500 as fact. Like, I made that up. I posted a fake ad on Craigslist.
Don’t believe everything you think.

I axed about 12. Most of them regressive liberals who who's shrieking was just deafening but at least 4 that were just ostrich type Trumpists who couldn't accept that yes...racism is real and no, you probably don't really understand it as well as you think you do.

I think it matters a lot. I read that 44% of us merkins get their news from Facebook. Some of the fake stories out-clicked and shared real stories. This absolutely shapes thinking.dead man walking wrote:real or fake, doesn't matter.

Re: How many facebook friends did you loose this week?
I eventually was defriended by one guy, who sent a strong message by also unfollowing me on Instagram, where I never post anything political. Yes, I checked.
Over the last year I've learned a great deal about the people I interact with socially, some of whom I still call friends. It always comes down to politics, but I friends all over the political spectrum who are capable of having intelligent discussions or just agreeing to disagree.
It's mostly "liberals" who can't do those things, but that's simply because I live in NY and know so many liberals.

No. It doesn't. It is ridiculous to claim that open homosexuals receive more abuse today than they did even last year, let alone 10 or even 20 years ago. The liberal reaction to this election result is hysterical and completely unwarranted.
You seem a reasonable man and I am not interested in fighting you. But if that is what you want, we can do it. But you'll have to be more direct and drop the pretense we are discussing issues.
Re: How many facebook friends did you loose this week?
I'm not fighting anyone. I disagree that it is all hysterical overreaction. I'm being as direct as I can without typing out some kind of dissertation. Of course we are not comparing 2016 to the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s, but are there people that think things have not escalated over the past three or so years?bennyonesix wrote:I wouldn't have asked you if I thought you were dishonest.Boris wrote:Okay, so now do you believe me? Everyone on my friends list who publicly announced they were going to take a break from Facebook last week is still there, posting and sharing the same stuff they always do, with no mention of their declared flounce.

It is hysterical overreaction. I see no escalation over the past three years other than the Cultural Left going from victory to victory: from Gay Marriage to Bake The Damn Cake Bigot to Trannys in Ladies Rooms. What you see as (apparently unequivocal) victories, some see as people just demanding the rights that others have always had. But you know this argument and I know it's falling on deaf ears.

What do you guys see as the most effective way to effect social change? Protests seemed to work much better when there were far fewer of them. These days an individual cause protest tends to get lost in the noise of the fairly constant stream of protests going on daily for anything and everything. Out of control protesting which end in riots, burning, and looting not only don't seem effective but seeming resulted in a major backlash from among others the rural whites and helped put Trump into the White House. What might be a better way to effect change? If this is working - I'm not seeing it.

Using honey rather than vinegar. My bet is that gay marriage happened not because of protests and parades, but because judges socialized with professionals who happened to play for the other team.climber511 wrote:What do you guys see as the most effective way to effect social change? And I don't think it was necessarily fewer protests, but better protests. MLK, Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks didn't riot, didn't damage property, and didn't help themselves to free TVs. Not sure if there have been any protests (of any stripe) since that got results.
