ISIS war stupidity
Getting the US involved in a war in Iraq and Syria, while setting the metric of success (destroy ISIS) as something we already know we can't accomplish. Holy shit this is dumb.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.
Re: ISIS war stupidity
Agreed. What's equally dumb is that we gave them all their weapons. Trying to oust Assad wasn't such a great idea after all, eh?
If "they" wanted to, they could freeze all these fuckers money/funding, but that won't happen.

Re: ISIS war stupidity
That is crazy talk. We got rid of Syria's WMDs without putting a single boot on the ground. ISIS is a tiny player who has good social media skills. They couldn't be less our problem, and a coalition of Arab states could prisonsex them easily.Herv100 wrote:Agreed. What's equally dumb is that we gave them all their weapons. Re: ISIS war stupidity
But ISIS is a million times more sophisticated and scary than al Qaeda because....I don't know. They're easier to find than al Qaeda was and we want to pretend that the GWOT is both winnable and never-ending.

Re: ISIS war stupidity
The weapons were destroyed by a deal between Syria, Russia, and the US, and Assad is still there. This could have been done without being allies with ISIS in Syria. They are using weapons and equipment given to the Syrian rebels and paid for by the US.Grandpa's Spells wrote:That is crazy talk. i say bomb the primitive, beheading bastards. it will make good tv, and we'll feel as though we're doing something.
and perhaps it will shut up mccain and his hawkish buddies, although i doubt it. they'll find something to bitch about.
perhaps obama should just bomb washington . . . when congress is in session.
andy could become president. seahill could be vp. their drs could medicate them so their mini-strokes didn't overlap, and one of the two would always be competent.

Their huge and ever growing bankroll combined with a fanatic hatred of the west, specifically the USA, makes them especially dangerous.
They're attracting westerners including Americans who have passports allowing them free access to the USA to foment their violence.
Fucking them up is prudent. The strategy for doing so, is for those smarter than me.
Congressional authorization is essential.

We can't destroy their capacity as an effective force by a combination of cutting off their funding and drone strikes? Why not?Grandpa's Spells wrote:Getting the US involved in a war in Iraq and Syria, while setting the metric of success (destroy ISIS) as something we already know we can't accomplish. We are going to use whatever surrogates we can to hunt down their leaders and kill them. Drones, angry tribes, Assad, Iranians, however. It will be whack-a-mole, but we're pretty good at it.
People think we have way more control over what happens there then we do. The Arab spring wasn't our idea, for example. We tried to pick the winner and side with them. Syria is a shitstorm with no good choices, just worse ones.
Oh, and fuck Dick Cheney.

ISIS just made the fundamental mistake of moving from an insurgency/street based org. to an institutional power that holds land...territory....Stuff...
Whatever else we suck at, we're brilliant at taking people's territory and reducing it to rubble. We can wreck stuff all day.

Interesting that our resident libs get more spun up about Kaz's language than actual genocide.

I agree 100%. I'd stay on my couch, drink my beers and watch TV. Seeahill will keep a diary of the happenings and Spells will teach all the fighters how to be non violent. If that isn't working within a month, we'll proceed to kill every last muslim in the world.dead man walking wrote:i say bomb the primitive, beheading bastards. it will make good tv, and we'll feel as though we're doing something.

The Sauds have to be feeling it. Why can't we just let Isis do some Saud fucking before we go in?
Re: ISIS war stupidity
I'm all for killing a couple hundred of those guys every time they decapitate an American, but the talk of ISIS as though they're the greatest threat western civilization has ever seen is not believable.

This. If they hadn't seized power in a political manner, you could argue that it would never succeed. If you have actual buildings to destroy and lines of defense, the US war machine is something you don't want to face.Blaidd Drwg wrote:ISIS just made the fundamental mistake of moving from an insurgency/street based org. to an institutional power that holds land...territory....Stuff...

I've read on numerous Facebook posts that they have promised to raise their flag over the White House. Several states are worried about Sharia law. They captured a journalist in Syria, what's to stop them from seizing Shaf on his way home from the nearest titty bar? Christians already face the War on Christmas each year and now they need to deal with this.Pinky wrote:I'm all for killing a couple hundred of those guys every time they decapitate an American, but the talk of ISIS as though they're the greatest threat western civilization has ever seen is not believable.

I'm for non-intervention 99% of the time, and also think ISIS having any kind of power now is a result of us dicking around in the mideast.
However, I make an exception for these fuckers with bombs(not boots on the ground)
If I was Obama's speech writer, the whole thing would have consisted of this video from 43 seconds on:

Go back into Iraq and take over the oil fields - then suck them absolutely dry as fast as possible and don't give them a dime from it. Then we can come home and they can have the place. The only thing we care about is the oil - terrorists without money don't amount to much. Tell the rest of the middle east- if you give a dime to them - we'll take your oil next. We have got to be the dumbest country on earth to "conquer" a country and not only not take all the natural resources but rebuild the whole country several times over with our own money. The war machine may be getting rich but the rest of us - not so much.

Re: ISIS war stupidity
Does anyone else remember when W promised "a war fought in the shadows", the type of war we'd never seen before?
This was before we invaded Iraq, obviously.
I'm all for drone strikes, JSOC, hackers, and the occasional cruise missile. Maybe Obama is already doing it. He certainly seems to get off on Seal Team 6 and drones.

I think you may have stepped right on it....
We are possibly the dumbest people on earth for backing the warpigs....but them warpigs is smart, what do they want with oil when the money gets made building, buying, selling, trading back, blowing up selling and buying more shit to extract oil that they will sell to the voters who paid for the excursion in the first place? Oil is just Oil.
