That's the other lie that is being spread about Ventura; that he lies about being a SEAL. Those that spout such crap are out right liars or have no clue how UDT and SEALs were set up back in the 60 and 70s.
Oh, I thought you were digging on the SEALS implying they're no longer really "special ops".

All the SEALS I knew in the 80's/90's still referenced it as UDT synonymously. Has that name completely dropped out?

Yep. UDT is a hold over from the 60/70s. UDT and SEALs both attended BUDs with hell week etc.. SEALs just got the added unconventional warfare land training.

IN 1983 all UDT teams were converted over to SEAL Teams.

One of the more despicable tactics against Jesse is to infer he's a liar and Valor thief. When civilians and non Navy personnel do it, I guess it can be excused as ignorance. When SEALs do it, they are shitting on their own lineage and the vets from WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

I guess it sells books, movie scripts and exercise equipment. Because if one didn't know any better, one would think that is the SEALs main mission. Quite professional and SEALs are two terms you'll rarely see in a the same sentence.

OK, I'm liking this Kyle less and less. I really can't believe SEALS would act like this. Though I only knew a few, this would've been unheard of in the late 80's

I've gotta admit, Spells and Bats are making some pretty compelling arguments.

Jesse has every right to be pissed to pursue that law suit. Where he fell down was not having the PR sense and or class to donate the money to a charity. If he had done that, he'd be golden.

The UDTs were around long before the 60's. For example, if I recall correctly they were the first to land at Normandy - days or weeks before the big party, they were freezing their asses off, in swimming trunks, surveying the beaches with a string and a sinker.

The SEAL teams formed in the early 60s, they were very small, and pretty hush hush at first. Low budget too. I remember the one telling a story about having to wash and reuse o-rings for their scuba and scrounge in general. (How things have changed!)

It was a long while before the general public knew what a SEAL was. They knew what frogmen (UDTs) were though. I remember reading in several interviews with the early SEALs mention that they saw the 50's movie with Richard Widmark "The Frogmen" and that was what made them want to to into the UDTs. In fact I think Dick Marcinko mentions that in his semi-fictional autobiography. BUD/S and Hell Week and all that are UDT traditions. In the 60s, most SEALs did not consider themselves superior to UDTs, anyone that made it through BUD/S was considered an equal.

I don't really want to weigh in on this story but I will say this. I gather there are a number of genuine ee-leet troops that participate here and manage to live life without going and making themselves celebrities. I appreciate their service, and I also appreciate their keeping quiet about things that should be kept quiet.
But when I stand in front of the mirror and really look, I wonder: What the fuck happened here? Jesus Christ. What a beating!

No one is disputing that UDT started in WWI. The distinction between UDT and SEALs started in the early 1960's with the creation of SEAL team 1. This is when the community started to refer to themselves as UDT/SEALs.

Weigh in or move along cunt.

Yes. It is hard to believe that somebody close to him didn't push him in this direction if he didn't see it himself though I wouldn't be surprised if he does so himself in the next several days.
