LA had more than a few gifts coming into the world not the least of which was freakish athletic abilities that were quite evident long before he ever turned pro.

This statement is bollox, BD. He had his athletic abilities. What else did he get? A dad who deserted him. A mom who was about 18 when she had him and had no third level education so she worked 2 or more jobs. This IS a story of someone with great abilities but no other advantages, who made it in the toughest sport in the world. As an American where "bike riding" even at te LeMond heyday was a tiny minority sport. Give Lance his props.

All of us grew up with kids who played sport and were talented but fucked it up. And we all know kids who weren't that great butade the most of what they had. Course we all know people rumoured to have been "gifted" but we'll never know cos they pissed it away. Armstrong, to give him his dues, was gifted, but worked really, really hard from age 12.

It's no different than discussing politics or art. You don't have to be a first hand witness to see what's blatantly obvious. If you think Lance competed clean...fine but the only thing you have to base that on is his word against the word of experts in the field,eyewitnesses (Andreau,Hincapie,Hamilton,Landia) and positive tests for both EPO and corticosteroids...If you think LA was a man for his time like 99.9999999% of the peloton and took what he needed to stay competitive then you're using your thinking cap.

In either case, WADA and USADA are evil,corrupt and sinister organizations and LA would not have gotten a fair shake either way. This much is also utterly obvious.


Gorbs, we'll have to disagree on what LA had to overcome. Personally I don;t buy into the victimology and while that's not the best hand to be dealt it's also not that different for many other people. It certainly didn't leave him vulnerable to his choices.
