I agree losabio. I'm all about keeping things that will actually be used if the need arises.
That, and I'm also about multiple knives on a glove that make me feel like Wolverine.

Found this on California knife laws via google. Seems Legit

I am partial to the locking mechanism of the Cold Steel knives.
I also like the company and owner, Lynn Thompson. Some people think he's a nut, but he trains hard and gives back to the community. He's pretty generous and did a kindness to my son once.
My son has the original AK47, the current one is better. It's been through hell and back. Also, the pocket snag does work quite well.

If you liked that spyderco kukri, also check out the Cold Steel Spartan (I have one and carry it often)

or Cold Steel Rajah

http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/RAJAH. ... ERIES.aspx
With all of those, you have a pretty good grip keeping your fingers from sliding forward.

Nice. I've got some thinking to do and lots of comparisons to make.
I'll buy one soon and report back.

Another great knife, you will carry in a sheath, opens easy, but locks tights and cuts meat and pierces well, while being easy to sharpen.
Gerber Gator.

But I like those Cold Steel knives, Emerson's are the BMW of folding knives and Stryder folders might as well be fixed blades, but are heavy.
I have the Kershaw you are talking about.
But here in Va. I can carry a better variety t seems than you.

I was trying to find a post that I read that had knives that were legal under the new TSA allowance for pocket knives. However, all that I am finding are announcements that the TSA has since changed their mind about changing their mind.

Always good advice. For carry, get a cheap Cold Steel lockblade and put an edge on it, so you can drop/lose it without a second thought if need be.
J-Cubed, if Lynn Thompson were on fire I wouldn't piss on that prick to put him out.
Whats your price range on this knife? What blade type are you comfortable with? Auto or not?
Emersons, Striders, Crawfords and other excellent knives can set you back $400-$1500 (easily)
But, on the bright side, no cop with half a brain will think you are a criminal with a high end knife.

Re: Looking for a new knife
TOM,
I don't really have a budget, though I'd like to stay under the $400 mark if I can. I'm not opposed to spending good money on a high-end knife, so any recommendations you've got I would very much appreciate.
I'm fine with any kind of knife. I've got a few years of edged weapons training on top of extensive (but not DARTH level) hand to hand training and experience, so I'm confident I at least wouldn't kill myself with it.
edit:
I should note that a folder is pretty much necessary given my current living situation.

My first knife, in the Scouts (Webelos, motherfuckers) was like that. It was a great knife, but I prefer something with some sort of a finger guard at this point.
Close, non-violent, call at the tail end of a 20 mile hike and since a few of my friends live in dicey neighborhoods, I'd prefer the guard and a little more beef.
Overkill? You betcha.

The SMF tanto is my everyday carry.
edit: it is not a small knife though but very intimidating.

Awesome, I'll have to do a little more looking, but that looks like more or less what I'm after.tough old man wrote:http://www.striderknives.com/products/i ... ex&cPath=6

DARTH,
It'd be scarier if I was, say, 6 feet, but I'm a shade bigger than Mickey. I'm still pretty confident in my ability to handle myself against most outside of power bears and jj/gjj/other bangers who are a bit bigger.
Thanks though.

I have always thought it should be spelled WEBLOS as it's an acronym.

Re: Looking for a new knife
I currently have 10 blades in my rotation
My main carry blades are:
Emerson Commander

Zero Tolerance 0350

But for more steeple friendly options I suggest:
The Spyderco Delica

And kind of off the grid are some small fixed blade options:
Brous Blades Silent Soldier. Great little neck knife. I like the wharncliffe version

Finally, another small fixed blade I like is the Esee Izulla II. It can be carried as a neck knife (without the handle scales). But the micarta handle scales really complete the knife IMO. So I sometimes just carry it in pocket or on my belt.

Here's the izula without the micarta scales and paracord wrap instead

I have the desert tan V ground version.
One thing to consider though is that tanto blades can be a little tougher to sharpen.

Harder to sharpen but they will puncture more than any other blade including some vests. And steel doors, car doors, bathroom doors, bar stool backs, ipods, iphones and ball sacks.

I bought 6 of these knives for under $100.00; Ontario Knives RAT 1 folder. A friend of mine was selling them and he cut me a deal. The normal price shipped on Amazon is $27.00.
Good enough for any job I'll ever need it for. Legal in almost every local. When it it's illegal I switch to a two inch blade folder. Plus, if I lose it I'm not out several hundred dollars. I've lost one so far.
Of course, I mod them. They area tad heavy, so I remove the handle plates a lighten the frame by drilling holes in the two metal side plates.

I once had a dart bounce off my ball sack. Terrifying, but I apparently have nuts made of Kevlar.tough old man wrote:Harder to sharpen but they will puncture more than any other blade including some vests. And steel doors, car doors, bathroom doors, bar stool backs, ipods, iphones and ball sacks.
Knife art looks like a great site. I can see myself buying like 5 knives after all the awesome suggestions in this thread.

My general everyday carry is a Doug Ritter RSK Mk 1 made by Benchmade. Light and holds an edge.
If I'm going in heavy I carry a Benchmade ATS-34 which is an Emerson design along with a S&W 638.
