Majority of people in the world have a loose set of ideals they ascribe to (some alleged to be "divinely" inspired..most not) and universally, these rules are subject to a But and Unless provisions that renders the ideal a policy rather than any sort of divine rule. By no means do I need to buy into a faulty premise or ascribe to a useful practice or ideal any more than modern Jews need be hindered with thoughts of pork being unclean or that genital mutilation is a best practice for the faithful.

I just read the "realclearpolitics" post... doesn't seem like there was enough evidence to convict on assault. Judge is still wrong for scolding the athiest dickhead and especially for bringing up the death penalty. I would, however, have let that go if he would have also scolded the hajji for thinking that his laws would apply in the United States and that he would ever be allowed to assault an American for exercising his right to free speech. Does anybody really have any idea what happened? The story has been reported and rereported and every version is different. From what I can decipher, it is a situation of two assholes getting in a fight and the judge had the testimony of one against the other, thus tossing the entire thing out. I suppose that actually listening to the entire audio track (which I haven't done) would be the place to start.

It's possible that I'm misunderstanding the facts, but Zombie-man's intent was to publicly insult people who disagree with him to their faces. This is called "being a huge asshole." If somebody insults you to your face unprovoked, they may or may not be within their 1st Amendment rights, but it's not shocking that he would catch a beating for it.
