I think Mir v JDS is less interesting than the Cinderella story of Mark Hunt's unlikely comeback and a shot at a UFC title. Hunt was/is an entertaining fighter (to me and many others). He hits harder than just about anyone and can take shots without flinching.
I think Hunt v JDS would be an entertaining, guaranteed stand-up war. I think Hunt would lose but he's always got a puncher's chance and Mir v Velasquez would still determine the #1 contender.
I don't think it will happen but I think it's more fan-friendly than Mir v JDS.
Fedor would be fun also but he's not signed by the UFC and probably never will be Fedor v JDS is not even an option.

Re: OverRoid
I'm sure Hunt v JDS would be an entertaining fight with both guys standing and trading. I'm just not sure the starpower is there for the UFC to risk sales on that matchup. Mir v JDS would be the safer bet, business-wise, even though it would be, like you said, less interesting for the fans (and less of an underdog/against-all-odds storyline for fans to get behind). If they do decide to go with Hunt they better decide soon and start hyping the guy up quick. He's a total unknown to the casual MMA fan and even many hardcore MMA fans are kind of like "Oh, yeah, Mark Hunt... He used to fight in Pride or something, right?"protobuilder wrote:I think Mir v JDS is less interesting than the Cinderella story of Mark Hunt's unlikely comeback and a shot at a UFC title. Re: OverRoid
You're probably right. Mir is definitely the smartest choice, just not the most entertaining.
Then who fights Velasquez?

IDK. I'm out of the loop when it comes to UFC lately. The HW division has always been a weak point for them. Who do they have right now? Velasquez, JDS, Mir, Carwin, Rothwell, Struve, Hunt and Nelson? With that lineup I don't think it even matters who fights for top contender, it's going to be JDS and Velasquez going back and forth for the title for the next couple of years at least.protobuilder wrote:You're probably right. Then who fights Velasquez?
The loss of Lesnar and now possibly Overeem really is a deathblow for that division. They desperately needed that starpower.

Jones stepping up will be the only exciting thing for the HW division now.Kraj 2.0 wrote:IDK. I'm out of the loop when it comes to UFC lately. The HW division has always been a weak point for them.
