If you could read, you would know that none of the "online sales" you're afraid of actually take place online. They're private, in-person transactions.

OK. I see what you mean. However something like 40% of all gun sales are initiated online and even the licensed sites can be used to set up private sales. NYC did an investigation not too long ago that showed six out of ten online sellers were agreeable to selling to indivduals who had informed them that they could not pass a background check. Where the money changes hands is a detail that makes it an online sale or not I get that. In any instance it's a felony to knowingly sell to someone who can't pass a check. It seems (maybe it hasn't because as you say I can't read) the internet has made it easier to get around/ignore that just by the sheer quantity of possible transactions. Why would anyone buy from a licensed online seller? Seems like such a hassle.

The Internet makes everything that involves communication easier, and none of the laws supported by Bloomberg and other assholes will ever change that. All they will do is make it a crime when one guy sells his hunting buddy a rifle without getting the Feds involved.FRKCTL wrote:OK. I see what you mean. As for why you would go through the background checks, etc. It's often less of a hassle than finding some guy on a thinly populated wannabe-Craigslist for guns that has what you want and lives near you. With actual online sales, you find whatever you want on the Internet at the lowest price, have it shipped to a local FFL; and then wait maybe 30 minutes while the background check is run. Often having a concealed carry permit will speed that process up.

Like any skilled liar, they did a decent job of blending lies with the truth. That is, if you don't know jack-shit about fighting with firearms. I am not even a novice but there were a few things that leaped out at me...
1. Those students were taught to shoot a gun... THEY WERE NOT TAUGHT TO FIGHT WITH A GUN!!! Unless they had some sort of fighting skills before that, they were just being shown gun safety and glorified target practice. The biggest things that was drilled into my head about gunfighting were:
a. MOVE and shoot, but definetly move
b. make use of cover and/or concealment, shoot from the most protective position that you can get to.
c. when moving, move to the outside of the shooter's arm.
d. Get more violent than the assailant. The more violent you are, the less violent they will be. I recall a story about an undercover officer
who shot a man at a party who was about to kill him. Although the BG had the jump on him, and was drawing his weapon, the officer
turned the tables...by throwing a rum-and-coke in his face. Sometimes that's all it takes
I'll bet good money that NONE of these were taught to any of the trainees.
2. The "shooter" obviously knew who was going to have the gun and the whole experiment was HEAVILY rigged. Element of surprise is a huge advantage to whoever holds it, including the attacker.
3. If you don't have the abiity to pull a gun out and pull the trigger, HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO PULL A PHONE AND HIT 4-6 BUTTONS THAT ARE ABOUT 1/4" SQUARES TO CALL FOR HELP????
4. Anyone been to Bethlehem, PA? I have. It's not exactly ghetto central where the COPS get tons of real-life experience with guns. Pardon me if I don't trust their opinions on the usefulness of firearms during a self defense situation!
5. Most Cops don't get extensive training with guns. Frankly, that same anti-gun sentiment bleeds over to too many police departments and proper training is often the first thing to get whacked when budget cuts need to be made. I've heard MANY police officers gripe about this. Frankly, if we were to say that only throughly trained personnel could carry guns, then a thin-minority of COPS would even have them. I'd bet big money that only officers in extremely high-crime areas and Military Special Forces have the up-to-date training and regular experience to have the kind of edge with a firearms that these expURTS at the Bethlehem PD are talking about.
Besides, it's not up to the Police, dim-wit pols or ABC to determine for me whether or not how I protect myself, my family, or anyone else around me. Neither of them are qualified to tell me what kind of training I need to carry what I decide to carry. They can all go fuck themselves!
