Thanks Shape. I didn't quit, or go off in a huff. I said I'd be coming around less frequently. I expect to make a contribution now and then. I'm glad there's a bit of a discussion about the topic going on now.Shapecharge wrote:Tim, really? C'mon brother. You're an integral part of this little thing we've got here so just chill and don't do that. You're needed here. Either ignore or confront what you don't like or disagree with. Just like a large extended family it's okay to not be down with everything. And I'm being serious. Post some more of those writing exercises you did years ago...that was cool shit.

It's your lack of initiative that disappoints me. Most of you are Americans and I am fairly sure that you could size up an equal amount of "honkey" or "spic" threads if you want though instead seem preoccupied with finding as many stories about some stupid crap done by blacks serving them up for others to go off on an uncreative, recycled rant against "niggers".
Come on. This is a group that admittedly doesn't follow the news but you spend so much time trolling for these types of stories? Is there a reason that I am missing?

I don't know if it's possible but it's exactly what's needed.Blaidd Drwg wrote:When the Rainbow Coalition lights up their torches to go after people who use or revel in coarse language, the discussion just gets tabled for another year.
The sooner our collective handwringing over wording stops, the sooner we'll have direct and frank talks in this country about class and culture.

Are you saying that if more people felt and talked like Darth and Kaz, we would further race or class relations?Blaidd Drwg wrote:When the Rainbow Coalition lights up their torches to go after people who use or revel in coarse language, the discussion just gets tabled for another year.

If your goal is to desensitize people to its use, why aren't they already desensitized? It was used in official documents all over the place back in the Civil War era, and was part of the lingua franca for a good additional 100+ years. What's changed, that would make saying it all the time have that desensitizing effect now?Blaidd Drwg wrote:When the Rainbow Coalition lights up their torches to go after people who use or revel in coarse language, the discussion just gets tabled for another year.

And yet you are being as vague and pointless as those you want to change. What exactly do you want? Words to not mean anything?Blaidd Drwg wrote:

I'm saying exactly what I said. The overreaction, the misplaced sense of entitlement and the public shaming of people for having very legitimate dislike of other classes, cultures and customs is pointless. I don't care what irritates Seahill's sensibilities, I appreciate the honesty of those who irritate him.

What is an example of a legitimate dislike of a culture, class, or custom? Should they change?

I used to completely avoid the free speech forum because of the bigotry.
I've yet to be convinced that black people, promiscuous women, homosexuals, Jews or anyone else slandered here is any worse than anyone else. That's from glancing through a lot of posts that spew hate and separation.
One of my friends can't help but say stuff like this to people, he got his wife and himself dis-invited from doing anything with their longtime friends for saying racist things to them. I like him because he's fun to go surf with, but I'm careful with where I invite him to go.
I'm not a fan of what you guys write, but it is a free speech forum. I don't have an issue ignoring and not responding to the posts either.
