I don't understand the logic behind using "nigger" when what you mean is "low-life," "scumbag," "scoundrel," etc. I understand the meaning when someone makes a distinction between black people and niggers (even black people will denigrate each other with "the n word"), and by extension I understand how non-blacks can be considered niggers. But at this point I encounter this problem: I think the word "nigger" connotes blackness too much to be considered a neutral term for designating all shit heads. Personally, I think the binary of nigger/black person is dangerous precisely because the word "nigger" is always associated with black people, regardless of the speaker's intention. Why don't you just call the aforementioned shit heads "reprobates," "assholes," "fuck faces," etc.? Terms like that get to the heart of the matter without including race. After all, race allegedly has nothing to do with the designation "nigger" when it's used in the way described above.

By the way, I know that white people aren't the only ones who make this distinction. Chris Rock even has a famous bit about it (below). But like I said, I think it's a slippery and imprecise distinction.

Because although I think what a nigger means now CAN be applied to whites, it does describe a certain type of black trash. So when you say nigger, you know what we are talking about.

If I described that viral video of the woman being beat up in front of her kid in NJ and said " A reprobate beat her like a dog." vs. " This nigger beat her like a dog?" Which one better describes the scene and the actors to you?

Hey congrats to those who don't use profanity and what not and some how can be above it all. A word means what people agree it means. Different classes of people agree on different shades of meaning.
Arguing over the use of the word by one group versus another group is pissing around about protocol. It is a playground argument about who is showing "proper" respect.

The whole of the argument is nonsensical and a waste of time.

Also, I want to break this ape's arms in half. Well lets be honest, I doubt I could say anything to somebody who'd do something like that, or call him something, that would hurt his feelings.

And you are correct, "sociopath" or "psycho" would work too.

Me personally, I choose to describe a man -regardless of his color- who beats a woman in front of a child as a nigger because "asshole" just doesn't carry as much weight.

At the end of the day, it's just the way my mental thesaurus works.

I don't like name-calling period.

Assholes are assholes regardless of race, I don't like to distinguish. I've always worked with a very diverse group of people and have never found that well-educated reasonable people are very distinguishable from one another based on their values or likeability.

I'm related to quite a few under-educated poor people and there is certainly a large group of these folks, diverse as well, who are very good people. Some of my relatives do not fall into this category.

And then there are just bad people. And they suck no matter what they look like or how much money they make. I used to kick out the rich white boys (in high school driving BMWs that daddy bought them) in my gym who would use the N word to describe any random person of color they were talking about. They used it to make themselves feel superior to people who were only different in skin color. And unfortunately, that is how I most often hear it used.

Most of my top lifters are minorities and most of the coaches I work with in other sports are as well. And they are an awesome group of people.

I'm just saying this because in my experience, the n word is ugly and not useful.

I quit delivering pizzas on the side because I was hating up a storm because of them and it was better money than you might expect and easy as Hell. Drive around, crank tunes ect.

But I and my buddy John Browning on my hip was also in condition 1 in case of robbery and I got so sick of those types wanting change for a $20 on a &19.75 order (of coarse no tip) all the time, even the ones who lived in under a mile from the shop. (Yeah against the company rules but I was not going to be at a disadvantage because the Noid said so.)

I've had young ones about to give me at least a dollar and you'd hear some sheboon yel to them from the back " Don't give him a tip."

My last night was epic, I was a total dick to them. I made up little bags with Raman noodles and ketchup packs and gave it to the stiffers. " Here this is what poor people should eat." They were LTHAO back at the shop when they;d call and complain. " Well sir, Heywood quit just now.". That's what I put on my nametag, for Haywood Ja Blow Me?

I don't doubt that some of you have reason to use the words you use. Most of the people I hear using the N word really have no reason other than being arrogant little pricks or sheltered Yankees who will call a man an n-word for beating his wife, but won't stop his own brother from doing the same.
