Road Warriors: suggest a Man purse please...

Post by seeahill »

You get two bags to carry onto a plane. I have a good overhead bag. But what works for you as the small bag? I need to carry my 13 inch laptop, the charger for that and my phone. Also, toilet kit, Kindle, a few manila folders with documents, and maybe a sandwich or bottle of water. I want something pretty small, like a messenger bag. I like the kind you can carry cross shoulder, so it needs a long strap with some width to it.

I don't need or want a leather bag. I'm not trying to impress anyone with this. Velcro closures are best. No buckles. Zippers OK. But something with a padded pocket for the laptop would be nice.

Any ideas?

I have had this bag for nearly ten years and pull it out when traveling because it simply works for that kind of thing.

Though it appears to be out-of-stock, this appears to be an updated version that would work a bit better for what you need anyway.

I don't know what a prison wallet is, but I think you're telling me to stick it up my ass.

Chrome bags are THE SHIT. Period. I've got a couple of them, one backpack and one messenger bag. Wife has a backpack. Completely waterproof, super comfortable and damn near indestructible.

Look through the laptop bags http://www.chromeindustries.com/us/en/bags/laptop-bags
Messenger bags http://www.chromeindustries.com/us/en/b ... enger-bags
and Utility bags http://www.chromeindustries.com/us/en/bags/utility-bags
and I'm sure you can find a bag for what you need.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

I've used a Timbuktu bag like this on a daily basis for about a decade. I always take it traveling. The one Phaedraus is probably more organizable. The Timbuktu has a few smaller pockets in it but it is basically just one big pouch...no frills, nothing to break. The messenger bags are great if you want to be able to access the contents quickly without taking the bag off. I use mine a lot to carry a camera or two.

I have this. Has 2 exterior pouches, a divided inner pouch w/slots for this and that including one specifically for a tablet. Also has a couple of other pouches. It's soft and flexible and has the kind of strap you want. So far it's fit beneath every airline seat no matter how small. It's built pretty well and I'll get a few years of use out of it. Don't know anything about the merchant but it's $39.90 here. I got mine at an outlet store.

I like their bags, and they donate to worthy causes. Bonus: The stuff is sewn in Bozeman.

Tim, I retract my Prison Wallet suggestion - the laptop might be a stretch.

***

Side note - for general travel, have you considered http://www.scottevest.com ? I have one of the vests, and have one of their cargo pants on order.
Although it won't substitute for a messenger bag, it allows you hands-free carry for a lot of stuff.

I do have some Scott Vest stuff. Cargo pants and a shirt. Good for walking around and made to deter theft. Good stuff.

But I was thinking more about the plane.

I'm adding a second to louburr's suggestion. Some of those sack packs are getting small pockets and more comfortable straps. Inexpensive and found everywhere. I took one on an overseas flight and it worked great. Would need to put your laptop in a sleeve for extra protection.
