Truce?

http://www.president.gov.ua/ru/news/31152.html
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The result of the conversation was the agreement on the ceasefire in the Donbas. Mutual understanding was reached regarding the steps that will contribute to the establishment of peace.
I am not sure if Poroshenko asked separatists?
I mean, he should made agreement with them, not with Putin.

So... no any landbridge to Crimea :)

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Pyotr Poroshenko did not agreed on a cease-fire in the Ukraine, as Russia - is not one of the parts in conflict. But they discussed how to resolve the conflict.
Thats better :)

http://en.ria.ru/military_news/20140903 ... -Call.html

DONETSK, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – A representative from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said there are doubts that Ukrainian military units in the country’s east will abide by President Petro Poroshenko’s call for an “immediate ceasefire” in the region because he does not have control over all of them.

“Poroshenko doesn’t have control over the punitive battalions, and there is no fact that they will subordinate to his decision,” the head of the DPR’s Defense Ministry’s press service, Vladislav Brig, told RIA Novosti.

He added that he has not heard of any agreements with the DPR in regard to a ceasefire.

“The DPR Army will not stop shooting until there are no more punitive [troops] in Donbas,” he said.

Letting things fester is a public relation disaster for the Ukrainians and let's Putin look "Statesmen" like. It's all a sham, but an effective one. All the chaos will drive the undecided Russian speakers into the join Russian camp. Only after things have festered for a while will Putin sweep in as the savior. My bet is Putin will let things fester. When your enemies are all busy shooting themselves in the foot, get out of the way

You were right. There wasn't invasion before election :)

Will wait and see about your other predictions.

The Whys Behind the Ukraine Crisis
A senior U.S. diplomat told me recently that if Russia were to occupy all of Ukraine and even neighboring Belarus that there would be zero impact on U.S. national interests. The diplomat wasn’t advocating that, of course, but was noting the curious reality that Official Washington’s current war hysteria over Ukraine doesn’t connect to genuine security concerns.

You're never logical, but please explain to me how Ukraine's internal problems are justification for Russian military adventurism. How does that make sense?

The thread is about "Russia and Ukraine" so what does this have to do with Russia and Ukraine?

Interesting read, a glimpse into the workings of that part of the world. If you don't find it useful you can simply ignore it.

NATO Owes Putin a Big Thank-You
Russia's aggression in Ukraine is making it easier for the bloated, aging alliance to pretend that it still matters.

“All sides in this conflict have shown disregard for civilian lives and are blatantly violating their international obligations,” said Salil Shetty, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, who travels to Kyiv and Moscow in the coming days.
Civilians from these areas told Amnesty International that the Ukrainian government forces subjected their neighbourhoods to heavy shelling. Their testimonies suggest that the attacks were indiscriminate and may amount to war crimes. Witnesses also said that separatist fighters abducted, tortured, and killed their neighbours.
Amnesty International has also received credible reports of abductions and beatings carried out by volunteer battalions operating alongside regular Ukrainian armed forces.
