There is a distinct difference between a city governmental entity and a school district. This stadium was part of a 119 million dollar bond project that included the stadium, a fine arts center and a service center (i.e. maintenance, supply etc.) for the school district, a district that is the third largest in the state with over 5,000 kids in the high school alone. In Texas there are many taxing entities that comprise the total property tax liability (both real estate and personal property). For example I pay city, county, school district (the largest portion of your assessment), community college, and hospital district taxes. We do not have a state income tax but we have a state and local sales tax. In the case of this stadium there was a school district wide vote (and the school district can actually spill over into other cities) to ask for the ability to raise the school district tax rate to accommodate the new stadium and the voters were told what that hike would be. Although I'm not familiar with the details the school district most likely used general obligation bonds to fund the new construction with the increased tax assessment being the required vehicle used to service the debt and retire the bonds.

I'm going to assume that calling Allen ISD the third largest in the state is a typo. It's not even in the top 20 in Texas.

Giant high schools is an issue with some of these suburbs, as I understand it, because the yokels don't want to split their football powerhouses into multiple smaller schools.

If I'm looking at it right, with:
8 home games
$7 net income from each ticket sold
15000 tickets sold per game (not unreasonable in Texas)

They will pull in about $1m per year in revenue for the stadium (this doesn't include playoff and other special games; or possible parking revenue)

Assuming the revenue goes to paying for the facility, that reduces the debt cost by about 1/3.

State of the art facilities like this make up ground during playoff season, which runs damn near to Christmas. Some venues will play a game on Friday and two on Saturday. 10-15K tickets a piece and $10 parking plus BS concessions.

It may seem to weird to others, but that's the way it is for most kids in a 4A or 5A program here. Starting in seventh grade, we played in a 15,000 seat stadium. By varsity that stadium was full. That's why a lot of Texas players don't care about playing college football. It feels like a step down. Unless you go D1 or top D2, it usually is.

Hey broheims, I'm just telling you what I know and have heard. I know that the stadium is not shared...only the Allen ISD plays football there.

We've all got our financial burdens to bear in one way or the other but for you homeowners out there in IGx land we get fucked over pretty good here in Texas when it comes to property taxes. When you consider they had a 14,000 seat stadium already...well I didn't have to pay for it.

Andy, I manage a planning department in a city and my mandate is basically to get shit done. Vacant land doesn't pay the bills. In Texas, municipal revenues come from two main sources: property taxes and sales tax. The struggle is to get the balance right. Obviously developed property generates more revenue than undeveloped property so my main focus is to act as an advocate for property owners/developers and help them though the byzantine political/regulatory process. I'm just one small cog in the machine. Equal parts luck/opportunity and partly by attitude/design. I'd much rather be a fashion designer by day and cage fighter at night but that time has past.

Taxpayer-funded subsidies to sports teams are usually a losing proposition even in the case of professional teams. The same is true of hosting big events like the Olympics and paying companies to locate in (or not leave) a state.
