This year's male winner is not particularly distinguishable from most other competitors on the surface.
Nobody knew who Jason Khalipa was before he won the 2008 Games. There's nothing particularly distinguishable about him either, except for maybe that he's over 200 lb.

The top competitors are definitely impressive athletes no doubt.

However, this is the fittest and best athlete in the world at the moment:

This thread is a public service. Some of you would be surprised at just how many @fitters have been steered away from the stupidity by reading it, having their beliefs challenged, and as a result putting down the koolaid and fixing themselves. I know for a fact that it's been a roadsign towards healthy, productive non-retarded training for quite a few members of the @fit community that I know.

It's also an awesome cross between tabloid and soap opera, but you all knew that already.

I posted a quick and polite question about the game..it got deleted and I tried to re-post it another way and can no longer log in. The question was about the build up with Kalipa, Orlando, OPT ect and how they essentially blew up. If these guys representh the fittest and prepared for anything WTF happened? I "friend" posted a question about how the guys from previous years were gone, or dead last...Everett, Thiel, Salo ect. Why no linear progression? If someone was close in 2009 should't hard work and Zone diet lead to improvement? Why aren't any guys who have done @fit for more than 1-2 years in the top 10? If the constant varied bullshit works, why aren't guys like Greg A dominating? y all peter out after 3 years. He was blocked also

Being a forum-nazi might make them look bad but I doubt it really makes a difference. Lynn Pittes can't moderate Facebook, Twitter, or 10 million blogs. But it does keep their board looking nice and shiny for prospective cultists.

Very good questions, and if you're gonna pay $1000 for a weekend certification, shouldn't there be evidence that it works long term?

It absolutely makes a difference: the tighter they squeeze their grip the more they alienate their community, and the greater the anti-HQ sentiment rises amongst the people who pay HQ's bills. They're so locked into a power structure metameme that their complete inability to handle a direct question makes them publicly humiliate themselves. And they keep doing it over and over and over.

Maybe all that 300 play acting and Spartan worship will pay off when the paying affiliates pull a Spartacus and revolt.

Evidence, Shmevidence.

When your "journal" doesn't even have references, it kind of shows the scientific world your true attitude towards evidence, data, and results.

When your training methods completely ignore the fundamental basics that are derived from the nature of human beings as unique, homeostatic organisms, adaptation, individuality, accomodation, specificity, etc., you demonstrate that you never even tried to understand training as a science.

Its just a giant fitness pyramid scheme.

No, CultBuster's friend was blocked for asking the question.

I'd like to think you're right. Unfortunately I think you're giving too much credit to the plebes, and not enough credit to PT Barnum's wisdom.

A few might wise up and call bullshit. I doubt most will even notice.

I'm still waiting to see if the affiliates with brains will start some form of union/business group to negotiate with HQ.

And, for the record, Couch isn't a scientist. But his daddy is!

Now see, you need to stop making sense. That doesn't go over very well when you're talking like that. Also they have their church of Cooch which in their eyes, is the modern day messiah and can never do wrong or harm.

No one can answer that. It pisses people off as well to ask "Where is Connor Martin" the original @Fit Kid? While he didn't even make it out of SECTIONALS this year:
Conner Martin talked briefly about growing up with CrossFit and how he considers it his sport. He’s set a challenging goal of winning the CrossFit Games next year, but he plans on taking the necessary steps to do so.
Sure kid. Good luck with that.

I throw'd real good at the Nationals. Couple of guys were amazed how much I have improved in the hammer. I shared my secret with them, told them I only did Crossfit.

Gonna whip both their asses next year.

Best,

I frown on them too, but it's a necessary evil. Of course HQ will frown on them, they lose out on $2k/year. HQ does not have anything in regards to trainers terms within an affiliate, so how they can police that will be virtually impossible. With each affiliate being owned separately, and each trainer an employee of the affiliate owner, not HQ that idea seems unlikely. That is a big difference between an affiliate vs. franchise.
It's to protect your business, and investment. As an affiliate where I am the owner, but do not do the majority of the coaching it is needed. Our affiliate manager and head trainer understand this, and have options to buy into our business at given times in order to make this more profitable for them as well.

Box jump gashes are the new torn hands.

http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=59472
I fell on a box jump, hit the corner of the box, split my leg open (nearly an inch deep?) and needed 6 stitches. I also screamed like a small child when I saw my leg flesh all out in the open.
It's not uncommon at all. I hooked a toe on the way up once and wound up gouging the inside of my calf. One of our trainers is sporting a scab right down the length of his shin as we speak.
Tamara Cohen wrote:We have at least one dented wooden box with a nice smear of dried blood on it at my affiliate. And, I saw the largest goose egg ever on someone's shin about two weeks ago from an encounter with the 24" box. So gross.

My 3 year old had worked himself up to a stack of plates at least 12" high today when he missed and came away with a bruised/scraped shin.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. - Helen Keller

I heard some sorta-smart guy named Dan John took box jumps completely out of his athletes' regimens because the risk-benefit ratio wasn't worth it.

I'm just hoping the person that missed a 24" box jump was female. If a male missed a 24" box jump, that's absolutely one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard. Though @F people never cease to amaze me with their pathetic feats of athleticism.

WTF????
Hi everyone! I just wanted to say "hi". I started CF mid May and LOVE it! I'm a former college athlete who has let life and work and kid get in the way of staying in tip top shape. Over the years, I've done a few triathlons and worked out here and there but, this Crossfit stuff is awesome!! My husband does MMA and a guy on his team is CF certified and is starting to train people so I got lucky with having a personal trainer!!

My general goals are to get back in top shape (cardio and strength wise) clean up my eating (started Zone a few weeks ago) and be healthy. Other goals are to DL 200 (max is 190), BS 180 (max 170) and break 8 minute mile pace. Oh and do pullups!!
Some fucking "college athlete" this hefer must have been - unless she meant "intramural college athlete that specilized in sucking off frat boys at slosh ball games"

In that case, she's welcome over here any...time!!!

Rev,
That is funny shit. Devious, but fucking funny.

Connor Martin was supposed to be a stud soccer player and CC runner. Guess not anymore if his sport is @fit.
I know Jeff. Hope he didn't ruin the kid's chances at a real sport with the sport of exercise.
