Maybe we should introduce her to Gary's "friend".

Nice edition, Gorilla. Hopefully the fall season will smooth out some of this gristle. Capillarity and striations aren't usually my thing, but what the hell.

Poor me:
Dear CrossFit Trainer,

As you are all very likely aware, CrossFit has recently added a test to our Level 1 Certificate Course. This test is an essential part of our continued pursuit of excellence and the associated Accreditation processes for our training courses.

In support of this testing requirement, we have instituted changes in our training and Affiliation requirements. Effective immediately, all Level 1 Course participants must pass the Level 1 test; in other words, hold a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certificate. This is now required both to be recognized as a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and to apply for Affiliation.

Participants who do not pass, or choose not to take, the test and have no interest in training others using CrossFit methods will receive a Certificate of Attendance. A Certificate of Attendance does not grant the distinction or legal privileges of a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. Additionally, it is not sufficient for Affiliation nor does it meet the pre-requisite to become a CrossFit Kids Trainer.

What this means to all current Level 1 Trainers:

Essentially, you have until 31 Dec 2011 (16 months) to pass the Level 1 Trainer Test before it affects your current status. After this date, any trainer who has not passed the test and received his/ her Trainer Certificate will not be recognized as a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and will not be able to Affiliate.

Initial attempts to take the test are free of charge and take approximately one hour of your time (less any travel). Additional information concerning the test, locations, and other details can all be found in the L1 Testing FAQ:

http://www.crossfit.com/cf-seminars/Cer ... estFAQ.pdf

and the Level 1 Trainer Course Participant Handbook:

http://www.crossfit.com/cf-seminars/Cer ... sed_02.pdf

Please read carefully through all of this material as it will answer most of the common questions people have.

One of our primary considerations with implementing these changes has been supporting our current trainers and Affiliates in making this transition as painless as possible. Testing will be available at all Level 1 Courses and you will have multiple opportunities over the next 18 months to earn a Trainer Certificate. The seminar team has already identified & discussed the need to target the broadest possible range of locations for Level 1 Course/ Test venues. We are also arranging for large 'Test Only' opportunities in many major metropolitan areas around the US and abroad. We are committed to providing the best support possible to all of our Trainers and Affiliates. If you have legitimate geographic, language, or other concerns affecting your ability to take and pass the test by the deadline, please contact [email protected] and we will work with you to find a solution.

These requirements are a step towards progress in achieving the standard for Accreditation and creating a quality assurance the community has long been asking for. In turn we are asking for your patience, trust, and vested support in providing for the benefit of our community. As always, we are available at [email protected] to answer and discuss specific concerns or questions.

[quote just received an email from HQ outline the testing process. I was quite concerned to read the following:

"I will be required to retake the course & test every 5 years in order to maintain a Trainer Certificate and/or my Affiliation? Yes. A Level 1 trainer certificate is only valid for 5 years. After 5 years from the date of issue the course and test must be taken again and passed to obtain the most current Level 1 Trainer Certificate and maintain affiliation."

Now I understand retesting, to ensure that I still have the knowledge, but spending another $1000 (or probably more by then) to go through the class again? This is getting onerous, that's not going to make me a better trainer, just generate more revenue.

What's the problem Couch changes any rule to fit any need all the time. He even made up some of his own rules. Bottom line is PAY UP BITCHES!

Well, in all fairness, it says that the test is free and they are offering some "test only" venues so, I don't think they are actually going to require that we retake the course.

Of course, instead of retesting, a lot of progressive organizations allow their folks to take continuing ed credits, even if offered by other organizations, to show they are continuing to educate themselves. Doctors do this.

But, that just further demonstrates that this is NOT a training certification, it is a method certification. For example, a doctor might get certified to inject botox. Getting the certification doesn't make one a doctor, its just a skill set that a board certified doctor who went to medical school and completed a residency has learned to do.

If they really upped their game (and it wasn't just a money making cult), they would require that the "trainers" actually have a training certification, coaching certification, or professional experience. Or at least a CPR/first aid/AED certification. Or a "how not to injure people by doing stupid shit" certification. Does that exist? Cause its NOT @fit.

If I need a qualification in "squatting with PVC" or "teaching people to get hurt by ignoring basics of programming" I'll give Couch a ring.

The only thing that "certification" will prove is that their test reflects their curriculum. It doesn't validate the curriculum. Its not ANSI's job or scope of practice to validate the science or reasoning behind a certification or method. Theoretically, I could get an ANSI certification for the proper method of communicating with mushrooms just as long as it had a method and way of testing it. NOCA is the same way.

some of you who are still dealing with the trauma of your divorce from x-fit need to see a therapist.

that would allow this thread to focus on useful information such as who is fucking whom, literally and figuratively, within the cult's kremlin walls.

why are you using the first person pronoun--"us"--if you cut off x-fit? do you still have some love for your abusive former mate?

Well, it goes back to some issues I have with my father. See, in 1972...wait-can't we just do this by PM like we do every Thursday?
