I'd like to see @Fer's faces if a 600# squat or an Ironman was the chosen event...or maybe they could just take on one of those unfit multi-sport college athletes in anything that isn't their own favored forms of exercise.chubbyhubby wrote:I'm really starting to like this guy's syle:

I'd love to see Michael Jordan's face when he saw the chipper at the 2009 games for instance...
Imagine Mikko if he grew up playing NFL , with his natural gifts I think even you would have to admit he would be one the all time greats in a number of positions. Or how about if Spealler took up baseball or gymnastics ? , the word dominate springs to mind...
If the pro's are so great I say we petition Coach Glassman into giving any pro ranked 3 in the world or better in their chosen sport automatic entry into the 2011 games. What do you guys think , would this be fair ????

Yes, his style is great. More like, "Imagine Mikko if he grew up playing soccer - oh, wait, he did, and he played semipro before finding @Fit. Or how about if Spealler took up wrestling? Oh, wait, he did that in college."chubbyhubby wrote:I'm really starting to like this guy's syle:

Don't worry. Most of them spend a good deal of time in adult daycare.

$150-300.
Clothing?
Every item of clothing that you wear must have a brand name prominently displayed. Russell cotton shorts are not allowed. "Forged" clothing and LuLu's ain't cheap.
Men: $150-200/month
Women: $200-600/month
Social events?
You can make up some ground here. The noveau-hipster atmosphere allows you to get away with Coors Light or PBR. If you don't drink alcohol, you have to show up with some reverse osmosis diet water from a Tibetan spring that has been aged a couple years and then distilled. That might cost you.
Medical bills?
Penicillin is cheap until your shit gets resistant.
You won't have any doctor bills for the first year because you will get all your medical advice from the @F forum or your level 1 Couch who was installing car stereos at Best Buy four months ago.
After that it can really add up.
etc.
Digital SLR camera: $500+
HD video camera: $200+
Hair gel and manicures (for men or women): I don't know...$50?
Laser hair removal (for men or women): Not sure about that, either...$50? $100? More?
Restoratives (again, men or women): $200/mo if you use the local HRT quacks. $70-100/vial if you hit the black market like a good boy.
Faggoty shoes: $100+
Food: $600+
Progenex: $120/tub

Most I've seen are $100+ a month and only allow you to train with the group i.e. no open gym.tough old man wrote:So. Anyone have an idea how much it costs to be part of a @fit box? My local box has no prices listed.

It's ironic that a fitness movement that mocked physical trainers and boot camps are nothing but glorified versions of the very same things.
Edit
GG beat me to it.

An open gym might be different but the rates are retarded.

Hence the cult-like community. I've seen people who could DEFINITELY use their money elsewhere still joining in the fun. They feel like a loser if they don't go and they get brainwashed into thinking that globos/YMCAs/"other" trainers are completely useless.tough old man wrote:I cant imagine an average person like me (lower middle/upper lower class) being able to come up with the extra cash or rearrange my schedule and my families schedule to fit into crossfits.

Exactly. Spending 3x more money than the next guy is the start of being elite.syaigh wrote:Hence the cult-like community. I think it's ultimately unsustainable for the demographic you describe. Certainly was for me and I am in that category. I came to that conclusion rather quickly.tough old man wrote:I cant imagine an average person like me (lower middle/upper lower class) being able to come up with the extra cash or rearrange my schedule and my families schedule to fit into crossfits.

Instead of spending $150-300 ($300???) a month at a box, the average Joe or Jane would be smarter to buy one or two cheap pieces of equipment (dumbells or kettlebells) from places like Perform Better (who have free shipping most of the time) and then put the rest of CF cash in a jar for about six or seven months so he or she could buy a few pieces of quality equipment to train with at home, forever, for no additional cost. While that person is saving up for things like a decent barbell set or C2 Erg, he or she can wring every last drop out of the one or two pieces of equipment they bought, body-weight exercises and jogging/running. Wash, rinse, repeat for a while and then, if they so desire, add more to the home gym. The schedule aspect and group workout mentality is very lame. What if you can't make the prescribed schedule times consistently? What if you want to work exclusively on strength and eschew met-cons? What if you don't care about the social aspects?
For all the numbskullery and brotastic douchebaggery seen at your average 24/7 gym, being a member at one is at least half-as cheap as a CF box. Globo gyms offer better hours, usually have a pool, hot-tub or sauna and showers. Some CF boxes have showers. Most don't. I don't know of any that have swimming pools or saunas. At Pec Dec central you generally can go in, get a good solid workout in and leave. For 90 percent of the population, a big corporate gym is not a bad deal, provided they show up and do the work. I know that's not e-leet, though.

Crossfitters aren't ARROGANT so much as COMPLETELY FUCKING IGNORANT. That is the number one problem for most of them.

These guys are putting up two WaDs a day, usually with 5 minutes rest between. Has it gone from a sucker born every minute down to 30 seconds these days?

This is the exact thing I tell my wife. In my 2 weeks at the globo I find I enjoy my home workouts more and more.Instead of spending $150-300 ($300???) a month at a box, the average Joe or Jane would be smarter to buy one or two cheap pieces of equipment (dumbells or kettlebells) from places like Perform Better (who have free shipping most of the time) and then put the rest of CF cash in a jar for about six or seven months so he or she could buy a few pieces of quality equipment to train with at home, forever, for no additional cost. The local non-affiliated affiliate has a space slightly smaller than my living room and can't do shit outside now, so they are kinda fucked.

You just summed it up awesomely. The better the dungeon, the better the training session.

The sad thing is that most @fitters image of their Box is of a hardcore gym but most are too fucking scared to walk into a real one.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:I like to visit bigger gyms, but the shithole, hardcore, dusty, dungeon types are where I like to train, if I'm going to do it outside my home gym. The only reason I don't buy my own shit is because I have a free membership. But should I ever build a house I've already planned for a gym that'd make any hardcore lifter proud.
