I don't understand the Flex/Up/FuelBand - all they are, so far as I can tell, are glorified pedometers with a web interface.

Might as well spring for a bit more and get a low end Garmin ForeRunner that tells you how far you've run or walked.

Actually I don't think those are for the eelite crowd, but rather the casual person that just wants to know how much they move versus how sedentary they really are.

They are basically glorified pedometers with a web page. But you can also input your food into the web page and track calories. They also track movement while sleeping, to give you an idea how restful your sleeping is. So there are some advantages.

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg for general consumer fitness electronics (and I'm keeping my eye out for related investments/stocks). Eventually they will combine all of these gadgets like the flex, bodybugg, heart rate monitors into one device. Maybe even something that might give you a resting pulse, blood pressure and sugar levels anytime you ask.

Why not just use the forerunner? Mostly for battery charge I would imagine, especially for an all day pedometer. With a flex, you only need to recharge it every 5 days or so, and simply wear it 24/7.

IMO, with smart phones already being used when running and then connect using low energy bluetooth to heart rate monitors, the flex and future Apple/Google watches, I can imagine devices like the forerunner being phased out.

About a year ago, a crossfit owner was murdered in Toledo, and someone posted about it on here. Turns out that five guys planned to rob a drug dealer at the site, and misidentified the crossfit owner as the drug dealer when he showed up to open his box. Two guys were sentenced to 15-30, two more were sentenced yesterday to life, the fifth is at large. The crossfit owner was a great, caring husband and father. A real tragedy.

Seems very bizarre, I read Horton's article on IF after I saw Dan John recommend it. According to the article Horton did IF to get ready for his wedding but then he is all of sudden hooked up with Cohen.

Then after seeing more of Horton's writing I was surprised he was with any woman at all.
