When I was 22 or so, I was at a buddy's 21st., celebrating at the bar. We weren't even really being that rowdy. Anyway, there were 11 of us or so, an I guess a few of them started some shit with a few of the other patrons an the bouncers came to break it up. They squashed it, but told our entire crew we ha to leave. Looking back I kinda understand it, a bunch of tattooed, mohawked hooligans as we were. Anyway, one bouncer grabs my arm and tells me it's time to leave. I said, politely, "no problem just lemme finish my beer." He didn't listen an gave me a good yank in the direction of the door. I stood there, looked at him, drank a big swig of my beer and then dumped the rest of it out on the floor in front of his feet. He didn't like that. Then I took a swing at him, and he deflected it. An he didn't like THAT either, and he and his colleagues then commenced to treat me to an efficient, effective ass-whoopin and extrication from the premises.
That's what I get for being a jerk. I wouldn't partake in such boorish behavior nowadays.
And as an aside- three years later, at 25 I got a job as a cook at that same joint! And one of the bouncers still worked there. We had a great laugh about it.

Folks get killed, gorked, spinal injured from falls all the time both assisted and inadvertent. I have several in my icu always. Usually like Andy or seahills age, but younger also.

Remember all these tales of death and instant retardation the next time you all get dissmisive of the opinion that when entering a fight, even one that seems like it's nothing more than a shoving match at first, that anytime you enter a form of combat with another man there is a chance of being killed.
We had a D.A. in class years ago and my old Sensei ( a former cop) stated that he thought he might have a viable defense in court if he killed someone who took a swing at him becuase in his exp. as a cop and a martial artist since the 60's he has seen people who have been killed or made a vegg by a simple punch to the head.
The DA took the theory back to his office, talked it over with his crew and they all agreed that a decent lawyer could very well be successful with such a defense, especially in Va.
This is why laying hands on people is usually stupid. you never know how far things can go.
It's why when someone so much as makes a fist at me I enter in liike I am going for a kill. It's not that you do so and execute a kill but you put them in a position where you are dominate or your counter aggression makes them dissengage. The ceasation of hostilities as Trooper called it, is the true goal but going in with the mindset of "I am a martial artist and I will just control this guy." can set you up for being yet another black belt with a TBI. Close-Enter-Kill! Is the mindset but not the necessarily the outcome.
Yes the majority of fights are ego driven, medium risk events that can usually be avoided but sometimes it's just your turn in the barrel.
