What's the IGx unadulterated opinion on the taxi vs Uber debate?

How do you people in the US afford cabs? A taxi to the airport in most cities is more expensive than simply renting a car (including insurance) and driving yourself.

TIL you're not in the US? Airport fares tend to be gouge-y. If I go somewhere like Vegas, I rent a car. Parking's easy/free everywhere and taxis are brutal. NYC is going to be a combination of taxis and trains. Hard to park unless you are staying on the Jersey side.

Insurance companies. Your personal auto policy will not cover an accident if you are using your car for commercial purposes. If Uber has a way around that, I'd love to hear it.

They don't. Uber expressly states that it has a policy that covers you when there's a rider in your car, but does not cover you at any other time including being on the way to pick someone up. At those times, if your insurer finds you were engaged in Ubering, you're fucked.
