Cortez was one of the shittiest refs working and didn't deserve mention when he took himself out of the game.

He's a fucking joke, he's not fair, he's not firm, he's a fucking idiot.

Fuck Joe Cortez.

He was terrible.

Steve Smoger knows what he's doing. The guy, whose name I'm blanking on at the moment, who refereed the Alvarado-Rios fight on Saturday is good.

There are a lot of really good referees who know what they're doing.

He was the Barack Obama of refs.

On a somewhat related note, John L Sullivan's birthday was the other day...

I actually commented to the Missus on the ref's good footwork and positioning during the Alvrado-Rios fight. Smoger will let guys take a little bit too much punishment sometimes, plus I can't watch the dude ref a fight without thinking of the clip where he's tenderly telling Lou Savarese to "take your time, Big Louie" after a knockdown. I used to like Jim Santa and Arthur Mercante Sr. back in the day.

A legendary moment. Smoger's got a rep as a ref who will force you to stop your opponent instead of just jumping in to keep someone down.

Mercante Sr is as much a legend as a ref can be. His kid isn't a bad ref either. Even when he misses things, I think that he's still got good control of what's going on in the ring.

Cortez never had control, the fucking hack.

I still remember when James Kirkland got dropped three times by that Japanese fighter a while back. He took a flash knockdown on the last one and Cortez pushed him back on the ground when he tried to get up.

dmw, you son of a bitch.

You knew I would go off one way or another, and now I'm all pissed off.
