Great book by Getty on how he came up and became the richest man in the world for a time.
Although the subtitle is "His Formulas" it's not a do this then this type of formula for getting rich by any means.
Rather than a Nappy Hill type strategy, this book documents Getty's path to wealth as well as what he believes is important to success. Additional guidelines are included on stock investment, real estate investment and fine art investment.
An excellent read.
How To Be Rich

Did he mention being born rich as a nice first step? His dad made multimillions in the first OK oil boom, owned fields all over, etc. Then, JP 'made his first million' on an already-producing field his dad gave him. That's why it's how to be rich, not how to get rich. Being rich is just as easy as being poor.
My SIG can beat up your SIG.
His account of how he acquired his first well is different, of coarse.Garm wrote:Did he mention being born rich as a nice first step? I also took exception to the title.

Same goes for Howard Hughes. His father invented some new drilling devise for the oil business.
Bill Gate's father was a multi millionaire lawyer. Before the firm was disbanded it was the biggest law firm in Seattle. It employed around 1,000 attorneys in the Seattle area alone.
Same for the douche bag Trump.
Carnagie was a true rags to riches story. Son of a scottish weaver to Billionaire.
I read the book a while back. Full of common sense that isn't so common nowadays.

Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.
I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

If you inherited $40 million and turned it into $4 billion, ( is this what Trump did ? ) that's a neat trick, bad hair and obnoxious style considerations aside.
If I had $40 mil., I'd have to go through a long, long period of vacation type life style. Don't know that I'd be motivated to turn it into a lot more. Could be one reason I don't have the 40 in the first place.

Read my last comment. I was giving Getty he due.Ralph wrote:I know it's difficult, but please attempt to distinguish between useful principles/ideas and an individual's background.
Or don't.
While it is very commendable that Getty, Hughes, Trump, and Gates all turned small fortunes and superior upbringings into billions while others would have sat on their asses enjoying themselves, I still admire the Carnagies of the world more.
