Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.
I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

Yes, the 0.5% of the population that knows how to use those features.Hagbard Celine wrote:True, but artists and photographers need that shit.bigpeach wrote:Them Japs is smart. Pack a camera with features that 99.5% of people have no idea how to use and charge 3X as much as they would for a regular point and shoot 5 megapixel camera.

Not necessarily. Good megapixel cameras have way more resolution than a magazine spread requires.Pinky wrote:I thought artists and photographers used film, unless they have to email a picture in to a newspaper or something.Hagbard Celine wrote:True, but artists and photographers need that shit.
OTOH there are guys like William Wegman running around who still use large-format sheet film. IIRC he uses 11x17? Just depends on what it's for.

The use of digital is increasing, and alot of artists are using both it seems.
BTW in another field, electron microscopes always used 3x4 sheet film for their final images, because that was necessary to take advantage of the resolution you could get.
But in the last few years digital image capture systems have come out that mount onto existing scopes and the resolution is as good as film, even for TEM. One is (finally) budgeted for our lab this year.

It is harder to find photographers using film now than those using digital. Right now Canon appears to have the market with digital because the 5D is so much better than the competing Nikon D200 although both have support for high ISO. Seen pictures coming from the 5D and they are super quality but the camera is really meant for "professional" photographers as is the D200. It is all about lighting really.
