First off great video.
What it is: Good system of striking defense and basic bare bones striking tools and strategies for the non-striker interested in MMA or self defense. If you're a BJJ or Judo guy with very limited striking experience. This will help you survive in order to take the game into your realm of expertise, ie the clinch and or the ground. You'll also be able to dish out some punishment on the way in.
What it isn't: It's not an advanced or even itermediate boxing intructional. Even then, those with a couple years or more of Boxing or other striking disciplines under their belts will come away with several big concepts for adapting sport Boxing defense to the MMA and self defense game.
I didn't take notes, so some of the terminology Rodney uses I'm not going to refer to.
First: Crazy Monkey Defense (not Drunken monkey)
A variation of the peekaboo guard boxing defense. Chin down hands up with palms and fingers on your L&R forehead. Basicly, the idea is that it takes too long for the non-boxer to learn non instictive boxing defensive moves; like bobbing and weaving, slipping, shoulder turns, advanced defensive postures (Philly shell), & catching (parrying) punches.
This creates a cone of defense around the head. The idea is to protect the head at all costs, even if you give up the body shot. The thought process is that the risk of being knocked out is too great with a head shot vs taking a body shot. Plus, the average idiot (90% of the population) is going to take a shot at your head vs the body. KISS is the rule of the day.
Rodney also demonstrates defending against jabs, Straight rights, hooks, and over hand rights. Along with this defensive posture Rodney demonstrates drills that two people can practice to develop the crazy monkey defense.
Basic strikes demostated are:
Rodney covers the basic boxing strikes very briefly. He does cover proper body machanics for striking, but he doesn't delve to far into the standard jab, Straight Right, Overhand right, hook or upper cut. This is probably the only negative of the video series, but considering this is a bare bones system for non-strikers, I can understand why Rodney didn't get side tracked on this topic.
Monkey slaps
Rodney demonstates how to incorporate an open hand slap off of a jab or striaght right. The idea is to set up your opponent with some missed jabs or S Rights. On the rebound you slap the back of the opponents neck with the palm of your hand. Rodney describes this as a strike that should result in a knock out blow.
Cave man
I liked this one quite a bit. It's a modified hammer fist used with in the clinch or while up close and inside the opponents guard. The basic demonstration is using the hammer fist while in a standard Muay Thai clinch. Hard to explain, but IMO a good strike vs. standard boxing stikes while in the clinch.
Modified upper cut
Nice domonstation for getting inside an opponnets guard and sneaking the upper cut in for a knock out or stunning blow.
3/4 shovel hook.
Nice demonstation of a devestating body shot. Rodney explains the proper mechanics for slipping or moving off cenet line so as to deliver the shot. Plus he explains where to target the body, the floating ribs vs the lat or hip, so as to cause maximum pain and damage.
Basic clinch strategy
Basicly how to move into and tak advantage of a standard Muy Thai clinch.
Overall very good video. The real Jewel is the defensive system. Very Basic and bare bones, but very effective for the non-striker.
I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.
