BJ Penn Mixed Martial Arts The Book of Knowledge

Post by ___________ »

What can I say about this book?

First, the production quality is top notch. No cheap ass printing here, it looks sharp.

Second, this isn't a book some one should pick up to learn basics. If that's where you are, you'll be sorely disappointed with the book.

Third, and most important, it's a great book. It is geared to making the transition from all aspects of MMA seamlessly. This is IMO what makes BJ Penn special, the guy flows from one to the other, he doesn't look like a kick boxer who picked up jj or a jj guy who picked up a little kickboxing.

The background BJ gives as to his insight of some of his biggest fights is a great read, & the bit he touches into preparing for a fight is a good read as well.

I love the section on striking for the takedown. How often do we see MMA guys getting their head beat in by Chuck Liddell because they stay outside the pocket & dry shoot, afraid to step into the position where they could actually set up a takedown?

If you are at all interested in learning/training MMA, this book is a must have. 5 stars outta 5 by me.

I waited like a fool and didn't buy into the prebuy on Victorybelt.com. They're now sold out. I plan on buying BJ book when it hits the book stores.

How do you guys like BJ's website, particularly his online academy?

Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of the free man from the slave.

I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

BJ rocks for putting that site together. It is VERY cool to see the inside of a gym like that, usually not something that is broadcast all over. BJ is one fucking cool dude for putting himself & his gym out there like that.

I picked up the book this weekend and just reading in to the first few sections of this is awesome. The background and intro material is cool to read about his start in the sport but the color photos and walk through of the techniques is worth the price of the book.
While it may not be geared towards beginners, I can still see the book helping along the way.
So far it has been worth the purchase price.
