Wrist Strengthener

Post by gist718 »

Ordered a pricey toy from UK ($136 with shipping, perhaps if $ improves can be a $10 savings). Arrived within a week. It's designed to mimic the motion of reverse bending. I was always curious about bending, but also to lazy to go to Home Depot to buy supplies. I asked David Horne (for those that not familiar with gripboard, arguably the top contemporary gripmaster) to supply me with the "pussy" 20% weaker spring (compared to the original one). The spring is similar to those provided on the Ivanko spring gripper. There are 8 prongs for 8 ajustable levels.I have a decent level of strength (deadlift around 450, squat 350, bench 250, close coc#2), but on the easiest level with the pussy spring I can only get it halfway to 45 degree bend. I do not have pads yet, and they are a must for this activity, as it gets painful on your hands. I've done roughly 10 attempts with each arm, I feel soreness coming on in my forearms. Also it seems to be an addictive type of tool as I'm having hard time putting it down. The only drawback I see with it is the price.

Horne's tool is off the fucking hook. I was messing around with it at the Michigan Grip Champs 4, and it was well built, and too hard for me to bend until I got really warmed up and into it. I am a complete pussy bender, by the way.

If you're into it, it'll probably save you money on steel in the long run.

If the spring is too hard, try taking it off and using rubber bands, broccoli bands, livestrong armbands or whatever. Works well to microload.

I've been tempted. I don't do real bending, as the stock gets expensive. That damn exchange rate has kept me away so far...

Looking at the design, I don't understand why it's only for reverse bending and not overhand. I've only bent a very little, so maybe it's obvious and I'm justmissing it.

With overhand you'd be jamming the apparatus into your neck.

Underhand works well enough...

To my limited understanding on bending, larger factors have greater play in double overhand than wrist strength alone.

Ah. I was not visualizing that correctly. Plus being a very bad novice bender, I didn't know to hold it that high.
