Issue isn't that we're not looking into alternative sources. The issue is that policy makers aren't really pushing the development of alternatives in any real fashion. Moreover, many benefit from oil profits.

The whole situation is crazy. Saudi Arabia is our "friend?" Obviously large factions of anti-westerns living among the population is not criteria for "enemy." Seems our friend/enemy line is drawn as much by economic ink as it is by potential risk. I'm not naive enough to deny some practical need to this, but the sooner we manage to get free of the oil noose, the sooner we can get off the crazytrain. I'm surprised this isn't among the very highest priorities in this election.

Would diverting the money out of the middle east and into the farmers growing the crops stimulate the economy? Seems we're already spending the money anyway, might as well fund our own citizens.
I don't know if this is a correct assessment or not..I'm curious as to an economist's viewpoint.

You forget that Andygoogle has definitely proven that getting out of Iraq will not save us any money.

Not necessarily, but it would sure make ADM happy.

I think the best thing to do at this point to lower dependence on oil and move us toward alternatives is tax oil consumption more and use that money to fund research. The thing that worries me about the government funding that research, however, is that the government is run by whores and buffoons. If they try to pick a winning technology now they'll almost certainly get it wrong because we don't know what the best alternative will be in 20 years, and because they'll likely pick the option(s) supported by the people who have the best lobbyists. That means ethanol, coal, and/or whatever Detroit wants to do.

You want to see every gov't in the Middle East roll over, show its belly, and crack down hard on Islamoterrorism? Start seriously moving the US towards alternative fuels.

Malthus said it best...we're doomed.
In fact, we're not doomed - we don't even exist. Because Malthus proved we wouldn't.

Why are all you niggers so dumb?
Fucking nuclear to fucking electricity, you dumbasses.
We fucking have electrical grids to every fucking house in America.
We will need upgrades to the grids, but that's no big deal.
We'll have to get over this irrational fear of nuclear energy, but IT IS INEVITABLE.

How hard would it be to upgrade the grids? Easier than increasing oil refining capacity I hope.

Jack wrote:Nuclear Power is fueled by substances that would last an additional ten years, if utilized to the levels needed. Then you have what's left. It's dangerous to humans for much longer after it's used up.

Nuclear power is just not enough in the long run. China, The Americas, and the now the even the third world, places that never used to use oil, now all need regular supplies of oil, they need resources and energy. The whole game is changing drastically.

I'm sure someone will invent our savior energy source before it gets scary. Not
10 thousand years, Jack.
My solution?
Space elevator to clear atmosphere & then a gentle push to the moon, then launch it right to the sun.
Bap, bing, badda boom.
Do you have any idea the order of power available VIA nuclear?
Google that shit, faghettie, a few pounds of plutonium is enough to keep the lights on for a long time.
Along with nuclear energy generation, we'll unleash NE on the ME.
If you support my plan, please, vote ME 4 President.

Sweet. Now people will finally have a use for the space elevator blueprints I have scattered around my home office.

Sooth. And so much easier than thinking of creative solutions. At the same time, believing everything is lost or that nothing bad can happen are equal vanities, IMHO.

You know this elevator has been on tap for a long time, Pinky.

Jack wrote:The projections that the scientists and speakers in "Energy War" spoke of said quite simply that the worlds Nuclear Fuel supply, if it replaces oil, is good for ten years.

Countries that ten years ago were zero oil consumers, are now rabid consumers. 3rd world nations among them, and that use and need is spreading.

Nuclear just ain't the answer, all the experts agree.
Bullshit.
