Brothers come up with a caper where you realize, "Oh, shit, this can only end badly." Then it gets uglier. And uglier. Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn't make a lot of career missteps, and this isn't one either. Very entertaining.
And Marissa Tomei seems to have discovered the Hollywood secret of getting progressively better looking as she ages. Dayum. Surprised she didn't get another Oscar nod for acting like she was enjoying getting plowed by Hoffman.

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

LinkVisually the film is nice, and all of the men who have seen this know exactly what I am talking about. This film opens doggy-style and I mean it literally and thought Lumet must have had a career in making films where everybody just lays around naked and talks. Marisa Tomei is naked for a lot of her performance and looks stunning; she should be thanking the filmmakers.

I watched this over the weekend. The movie was okay but Marisa Tomei is unfuckingbelievable. Damn!

Re: Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
I just finished watching this movie for a second time. This is an unbelievably good movie. And the acting is incredible. You have two Oscar winners, Hoffman and Tomei; they have also each been nominated two other times. Finney's been nominated five times, and Hawke once for "Training Day." Whether you buy into the awards shit or not, it is a relatively decent benchmark for at least the industry's view of their talent. This movie starts bad, and gets fucking worse throughout. My wife would look over at me and I'd say, hang on, it gets worse. What I liked about this movie is I could see this actually happening...not the whole fucking thing but the initial part with the robbery. How many poor fuckers out there are doing time because they had a foolproof plan that somehow went to shit?

Watched it last night. Great acting by great actors, Tomei doggie, but otherwise I thought it was a tad boring. There was something about the tone and pacing that just didn't do it for me. Much better than 9/10ths of Hollywood schlock these days though.

Have you seen A Simple Plan? Great movie in the same vein. Billy Bob Thornton was great in it.Shapecharge wrote:What I liked about this movie is I could see this actually happening...not the whole fucking thing but the initial part with the robbery. Don’t believe everything you think.

Nafod, perfect example. For me, movies like this make me agitated. I remember watching that movie and sorta transporting myself into Bill Paxton's character. You know how that shit would go down...if that were you and two other buddies the chances of it all working out would be slim to none. You work out "the plan" that everyone agrees to, then two days later one of your guys is driving a new 'Vette or some other stupid shit that he paid cash for.
