Shaf gave me a great tip on magnesium glycinate from Beyond-A-Century. It is cheap and very effective. Effective for me being promoting sleep and relaxation at night time. A subjective state to be sure, but my roommate suffers from constipation and ~600mg of the glycinate had her regular within 24 hours.
The negative: the glycinate tastes like shit no matter how you cut it. She wouldn't take it. I suffered through it, but the after taste negated the sleep inducing effects for me.
Natural Calm is fucking delicious (raspberry-lemon flavor) compare to the glycinate (it is the citrate form of mag). It dissolves like a charm. It is a lot more expensive. It also does not seem to be as effective. My roommate and I require about +1000mg to achieve similar results to the 600mg of the glycinate.
But the taste makes compliance a lot easier to maintain. It basically tastes a little better than Thera-Flu. The warmth of drink is also soothing before bedtime.
I will be buying my future supplies from my trusted online seller vitacost.com:

Re: Natural Calm Magnesium
I'd tried that brand of Mg supplement a couple years ago and hadn't noticed a real apparent effect...but I never tried that large a dose.
Going to sleep isn't a problem for me, but anything that offsets my naturally hyper/anxious personality a bit couldn't hurt.
Thanks for the review, I think I will give it a try.

Re: Natural Calm Magnesium
To be honest, I think that the citrate form is rather weak when compared to the glycinate, ororate, or aspartate. But if you are currently taking a bunch of supplements or just don't want to swallow huge pills and have some cash, Natural Calm ain't bad.Abandoned by Wolves wrote:I'd tried that brand of Mg supplement a couple years ago and hadn't noticed a real apparent effect...but I never tried that large a dose.

You can get glycinate, ororate, or aspartate in pill / capsule form. KAL is a great manufacturer of them all. KAL has ororate at an especially low price compared to the other limited manufacturers out there. The price is so low that many have wondered whether the amount of elemental magnesium they claim to be present is accurate. Evidently from independent accounts, it is accurate.
The best place I have found for those forms of mag is the vitamine shoppe.
You've mentioned your history with hyper / anxiety. Next to klonopin, high doses of magnesium (glycinate / citrate) have been the best remedy that comes in a pill / powder for for me.
All this hand-wringing over which magnesium to take probably goes against my sig.
Good luck!
