Guillermo Del Torro directs some of the most visually arresting movies I've ever seen, and this one is no exception. This is intended to be a sister piece to the Devil's Backbone (which I haven't seen yet).
Exquisitely beautiful and pure on the one hand--- grotesque, brutal, and frightening on the other. This theme follows through to the end of the movie-- incredibly sad yet happy at the same time.
The actor that plays the faun is the same man that plays Abe Sapien and several other creatures in Hellboy... he does a fantastic job here.
It is so different than many of the American wham-bam blow 'em up Ma'am that we've sadly become accustomed to. The special effects are incredible and the performances are at least equally amazing.
Recommend it highly. Despite the 10yo star, this is NOT a movie for kids.
