Parisi School Training Method DVD's

Post by Scott Shetler »

I recently got the 5 DVD series from the Parisi Speed School.

The Warm Up method- an excellent dvd that outlines the warm up exercises used at Parisi. The warm up drills are designed to prep the athlete for training and sport and get the muscles firing optimally. Most of the stuff is pretty basic, but there are some very unique dynamic flexibility drills.

The Deceleration Method - basically teaches the coach/athlete different drills to absord and store force. They claim this is the most important factor in speed training, being able to decelerate and stop correctly will allow the athlete to become faster by teaching them more control over speed. They show many different exercises they use to teach the athlete to decelerate correctly as well as teach the two postitions in which to correctly decelerate and stop. Great stuff and Martin Rooney's "clap" pullups are fucking awesome.

The Agility Method - one of the first times I have actually heard someone offer a scientific definintion for agility and how to apply it to athletic training. No Renegade bullshit about living and training like a warrior, just solid exercises and drills for teaching an athlete to change directions without effecting speed, strength and power.

The 40 yard dash - breaks down the 40 into the different phases of the drill and shows how they train for it. Basically details why their athletes destroy at the combines year after year. They detail some great weight room exercises I have never seen before. Good stuff.

The vertical jump - this video details training for the vertical jump test as well as performing on the court (geared toward basketball players) the different phases of the jump are broken down and detailed as well as training exercises. Some really unique stuff here as far as the exercises.

Martin Rooney does an excellent job presenting in these videos and the videos are very high quality. Definitely worth the price tag and a hell of a lot better info than what is out there. One recurring theme the most important athletic quality "Strength". Not olympic lifts, or Renegade warrior work, strength, plain and simple. Get your athletes stronger and everything else can improve. They are fans of squats, deads and various strength lifts. They do use some unique variations of the oly lifts, but do not rely on them the way some programs do. They incorporate some PL WSB type stuff as well as some strong man lifts (like tire flipping). They show there is more to getting an athlete stronger and faster than "just doing some kettlebell swings". These videos are some of the best I have seen in a long time and a must if you work with athletes.

Just my $0.02,

-Scott
