Good show.
Lasers. Pyrotechnics. Nothing from St. Anger. Metallica remain a consummate, professional show band, and shows they are in touch with their fan base.
Openers:
The Sword: More melodic, stoner/doom kind of metal. Very old school and pretty good.
Machinehead: Not so good. Too loud for the venue. Actually forced people out of the arena area and into the concourse.

One note of interest:
The women at this concert were the fattest, ugliest, women I've ever seen at a concert.

The Sword is great. I listen to a bunch of stuff on that label, Kamando, High on Fire, Pelican, comets on Fire... fire is a big theme I guess.

Re: Metallica in Detroit@Joe Louis Arena
Is the sword still on sanctuary records? A good friend of mine from high school used to work at sanctuary and managed Lamb of God, (Bruce Dickenson, Robert Plant, Priest and many other notables as well) and said they got Sword their first record deal due to Lamb of God giving him Sword's demo. He left Sanctuary and started his own label 2 Minutes 59 Seconds Records. He's in LA now and caught the Metallica show out there in December, I think Lamb of God opened...

I saw another review by a metal-girl. She said she had never seen so many fat, old, bald, ugly men at a concert.Shaf wrote:One note of interest:
