Leatherman warranty- pretty fuckin slow, I say.

Post by GoDogGo! »

I sent in my Leatherman Wave because in attempting to unscrew a license plate screw, I snapped off the largest screwdriver blade. I don't hold that against it much; I have the Grip O' Death and the screw was really rusty. If I had known it was going to be that bad I'd have waited until I got home and got a real screwdriver.

But, I sent it in to the Leatherman company (25 year warranty) on Jan 11, and UPS delivered it on the 15th. On the 24th I was no longer amused so I emailed them. They responded about midday Oregon time on Monday, and said that they were still processing warranty claims received on the 12th.

Damn, people. If you're 12 days behind in processing received items, something is seriously wrong. Hire somebody already.

I'll let you know how it pans out. Anyone got any multitool suggestions in case I need to tell Leatherman to go fuck themselves? I need the usual pliers, array of screwdrivers, file, knife, etc.

I just bought one of these and like it very much thus far. Wanted a tool with a pocket clip and this one's worked out quite well.

Gerber makes a great multitool.

I have the one with the blasting cap crimper.

I've looked at them. I do love the fact that the saw is replaceable so that you can put a whatever on it for your specific needs.

I had a SOG which sucked, BTW. Hairline cracks.

I had a SOG multiple tool also; piece of crap. However, I have cheap SOG bowie style knife I bought for something like $20.00 in the mid 1990's that's the best fucking knife I've ever owned.

I see no Phillips-head and no jeweler's size drivers. Deal-breaker. Nice little compartment in there, though. You could put a wire saw in there in case you needed to have some fucknugget's head off.

Actually, while those little tools are cool, keeping a ratcheting screwdriver in your car will be a lot more handy most times.

I got it back today. It's not actually my Wave, but since I hadn't tweaked or customized mine, I don't care. All new bits, everything very sharp. They put in a note apologizing for the holiday shutdown and subsequent delay.

So: they honored the warranty and I got either a new or a good-as-new Wave. It took 2 days short of a month, which I consider excessive. YMMV.
