Terminator Salvation

Post by Abandoned by Wolves »

Got to see this at a free sneak preview Monday night.

Pretty good conclusion to the series overall. Way more satisfying than Terminator 3, but you could argue that that movie had to happen to set the ground for this one. Some of the individual set pieces were very nice indeed. Nice gritty CGI effects, especially with the bigger machines and the apocalyptic landscape and sets. Bale and the guy who plays the new cyborg have a nice macho staredown thing going on in the 2nd act. Bale makes a very convincing and impressive John Connor. In a nice touch (and nod to the 2nd movie), the movie shows a couple of scenes where Connor is listening to his mother's voice on an old cassette tape recorder - very touching. The new "hydrobots" are a nice little addition to the feel of the series - like a moray eel from your worst nightmares.

Worth seeing if you are interested in the series and can overlook the extremely fucked up time travel paradox/I'm my own grandpa aspect of the plot and just enjoy the beat down as humans try to fight back, with limited success, against a seemingly overwhelming and unstoppable enemy.

I read the novelization last week, great stroy.
BTW it's not the conclusion, it's the start of a new series.

So the Moon Bloodgood topless scene got cut out??? No!!!!!

Their were rumors the studio was wringing its hands over the Watchmen being rated R and not doing as well as expected at the box office. The studio wanted Salvation to cut the harder parts to make PG13.

Pray to the gods of the Interweb that those scenes show up somewhere.

Just saw it, and I hate to say it, but I thought it sucked. Very disappointed. There were some good things. Christian Bale did a great job of playing Batman/John Conner. The other guy was good too. But there were too many things that drove me nuts. Read no further if you haven't seen it yet.

- OK, enough with the shooting and bullets and shit. It's like they needed to pad out the movie to 2 hours and so they just kept throwing in more shooting scenes. It got real old. Easily an hour of the movie is just mayhem. Yawn.
- John Conner must be a cyborg himself to make it through the beating he took. Guy gets thrown a million ways from Sunday and keeps ticking. I don't think so
- The whole "nanny nanny poo poo you're actually a robot oh snap!" thing from Skynet was stupid. It would have been a shit-ton better if the dying doctor had made the cyborg a good robot to help undermine Skynet as her last dying effort to make up for being a beeyotch who helped destroy humanity
- So the cyborg ripped out his chip, which means his brain is all human. And then John Conner takes the guy's heart. WTF?
- Etc.
Don’t believe everything you think.

This guy would have kicked the T800's ass if he'd had that heart.

Big empty rattling tin can of a movie. I liked 1,2, and even 3. This was lameness filled with lots and lots of 'splosions. Not necessarily a bad thing until the I-beam through the fucking chest. Which he survives. And the heart transplant done in a fucking battlefield tent. Which he survives.

Goddammit. Way to spaff all over a cool franchise, guys.

I have a soft spot for T3, just because of the "holy fuck they didn't just do that" fight scenes (like the one through downtown in a crane truck) and the "holy fuck they didn't just do that" ending.

I thought it was great. And for once had a good story behind it. The Marcus character was a nice touch. More interesting than Connor. The action scenes were plentiful and drove the story IMO. Looking forward to the next one.

I agree. That movie was incredibly bad. I'll watch, and mostly enjoy, pretty much any sci-fi movie, but I could barely stomach this one. Why the fuck are there octopus robots in the river? Why use such an old body for their super human/robot hybrid? Why was Helena Bonham Carter even in this movie?
ugh.

Just saw this... I thought it was good relatively mindless entertainment. A few good nods to the previous movies "Come with me if you want to live" etc. Moon Bloodgood-- holy sweet baby jesus humina humina humina. Helena Bonham Carter at her absolutely creepiest... again.

They took out Bloodgood's shower scene. Goddammit.

Saw it at the theater.

The initial heli assault on the Terminator base was badass, and I thought THIS IS GONNA ROCK!!!

Then the whole movie just went over the side of a cliff.

Queerbait Malone running around with a mute 8yo black girl fighting Terminators in the urban wreckage...whatever.

Predictable plot twists but pretty fun. That bitch's name is Moon? She dirty.
