High West Rendezvous Rye Whiskey

Post by Alfred_E._Neuman »

Got a bottle for Christmas from a client who's a liquor distributor. I think it runs around $50 a bottle retail.

This is one of the only rye whiskeys I've had, and it's by far the best. Very smooth taste, with a spicy finish from the rye. Kicks just about any bourbon I've ever had square in the balls. If you get a chance and you like a good whiskey, this is worth a try.

With an unusual make-up of old and young whiskies and very high rye content, Rendezvous Rye has an incredible flavor profile that earned it Malt Advocates “Top 10 Whiskey of 2008” and what John Hansell, Malt Advocate Editor, calls “Great Price, compared to other premium rye whiskies.”

Here's a nice whiskey with a high rye content (I think it's 70/30 rye/corn).

I'll have to pick up a bottle.

I love a good whiskey, and now I've got a new taste for rye.

Van Winkle's rye is very good. Several years back there whole line was killler, and cheap, but prices have gone up since they've won some awards.

On the rare occasions I'd mix whiskey, a highball with rye and ginger ale was pretty damn nice.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

I laid out a hundred bucks for a 21 yr old bottle of the Hirsch Rye Whiskey a few years ago. I haven't opened it yet so the review will have to wait. I'm all about quality over quantity when it comes to sipping whiskey.

The 12 year old Canadian Club is a nice rye whiskey as well IMO.

Rittenhouse BIB (bottled in bond) is a very good, very cheap rye.

"North American Whiskey of the Year" at the recently-completed 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition...In capturing the trophy for top North American Whiskey, Rittenhouse first had to be judged a double gold medal winner in its Rye Whiskey class, meaning it was unanimously awarded gold medal by all judges in a blind tasting. It then had to top all other double gold medal winners in the North American Whiskey category, including Bourbons, Canadian Whiskies, and a number of artisinal spirits made by smaller "boutique" micro-distilleries... named "Whiskey of the Year" for 2005 by Wine & Spirits Magazine, and last summer Esquire called it "one of the best American Whiskeys at any price"..."

15.99 a fifth, around me.
