Anyone subscribe? Would you recommend?

1/2 the shit is phenomenal, the other half puts me to sleep.

I had a subscription. Some stuff was interesting, but the majority was really boring. Even the interesting stuff was generally somewhat boring.

I like the New Yorker and Wired.

Depends of course on what you're looking for.

I'm looking to stay educated about the world, but find that most media outlets are incredibly biased. MSNBC makes me want to shoot someone, NPR is tilting more and more left, and I'm too smart to watch Fox.

I currently subscribe to the New Yorker, but the quality has been pretty spotty over the last year. I think seeing Obama get elected fried most of their brain cells.

The longer articles on the politics of foreign (non-American) places are really good as are the articles on disputes all over the world. Tells you why and what people are pissed off about and who or what they think is to blame. They actually send reporters into places like Waziristan. Interview people. Come to some conclusions. Recommended.

It and the Atlantic used to be the only two mags worth subscribing to. But the quality at the Atlantic is slipping lately. I always liked the Economist for their coverage but I let the subscription go because once a week was a bit much. If you can really absorb an in-depth news weekly on top of everything else you're doing, then it's worth it. I stuck with the Atlantic because it's a monthly.

I'm addicted to the Economist. They were talking about the shit going down in South Ossetia and Georgia months before it happened. (Yeah, Katie Couric dropped the ball on that one. I guess Paris Hilton had a new hairdo that week.)

To the guys who complain that half of it is boring...I never read the whole issue (I don't think anyone does). You have to be able to filter out what interests you. I get it for the international news and I like how they cover the US from a European perspective. I skip most of the financial stuff. The obituary is always and interesting read, and they usually have good book reviews. (Billionaire's Vinegar, What's Left? etc...)

I was at the dentist's office a few months back and picked up a copy of Newsweek to kill the time. What a complete waste of paper. It was all big glossy celebrity photos and weak large print writing. "Gee, why are we going out of business again?"

Get it for a year, you'll be hooked.

Used to subscribe for years, but let it go-- expensive and not what it used to be. If you are in the political economy/ economics field, it is considered required reading by some. I read FT instead now.
