For those who want to read another study: Hydrocortisone Rapidly Induces Aortic Rupture in a Genetically Susceptible Mouse. Hydrocortisone is basically cortisol, for all intents and purposes.

Increased cortisol levels are the likely reason why @Fers' joints seem to feel so good during the initial "honeymoon" phase. Cortisol is the body's most potent anti-inflammatory, so they feel better (so exhilarated!

), they get hooked, and later the cortisol production starts to peeter out. Hence the injury forum.
