Inception

Post by Eric B »

Fucking great. If you liked Memento or The Prestige, go see it. Some critics are saying it tops The Dark Knight; I'd call it a tie.

You have to pay attention to this one. Don't go with a buzz on. Not that any IGx member would do that.

Oh, and I've run out of ways to hate Leonardo Dicaprio. He's a really good actor and finally looks like a grown-up since The Departed.

I thought Inception was awesome. This is one of those movies where it's good to go in as fresh as possible and have as little idea about the plot as you can. As Eric points out, going in buzzed may fuck up your ability to keep track of what's going on. This is much more complex than anything I've seen short of a David Lynch movies (which just don't make any fucking sense, but hey, tits).

I felt the same way for a long time, and around Blood Diamond I started changing my mind. He's very good in this.

This was even better on second viewing. Chris Nolan is not Kubrick, but might make it in his next few films.

Check out his catalogue before Inception (he wrote all these, along with his brother Jonathan):

The Dark Knight
The Prestige
Batman Begins
Insomnia
Memento
Following

If you have missed any of these, Netflix them now.

What were you guys smoking? Typical heist film covered poorly in some lame spec-fi. Really, lulz were a plenty.

Too long. Oh and the ending? Yawn.

Long, yes. I still don't like Braveheart for the same reason, enjoy some scenes but can't watch it start to finish.

But I watched Inception a second time in the theater. Yawn at the ending? Hm. Guess that depends. No accounting for taste.

I'll be buying this one to go alongside Following, Memento, Insomnia, and The Dark Knight.

My 13 yr old really wants to see this. Any opinions on if it would be appropriate at that age?

What do you find inappropriate? Shitty films? Then yes. Fucking, cursing, gore? Then no.

Very un-adult film. Lotsa action and cool movie shit with a hero with abandonment issues. Classic kid fare.

Worst movie of the year (relative to expectations). Terrible shit.

Good for people who want to think their 'blowing shit up' tastes have matured. Every 16-21 year old guy I train loved it and they are almost all idiots (ehdawg?).

I used to hate his face, took a deal of suspension of dissbelief to buy him as a bad ass in Gangs of New York and the Departed but they way he nailed a White African Para Military in Blood Diamonds was spot on.

The guy can act.

Hmm. Thought I had weighed in on this when it came out. Guess not. I'm with Herv & T200. A boring mess. The "mind blowing" story was just a setup for stock action movie BS. Shoot outs. Blow up things. Car chases. I would have walked out, except my wife hates when I do that.

Seriously, what % of movies that make it to theaters are worth watching? Pitifully few IMO.

Awesome visually, but the script tried to be too smart for it's own good. You never care about any of the characters or really feel involved with anything besides said awesome visuals. The hype for this flicker was too much. Left me all like "Meh".

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I'm pretty sure most people who criticize this film didn't really understand it but are pretending they did. Of course that doesn't include you fine folk :-"

Lulz. And let me guess: you found The Matrix to be deep and meaningful as well.

I made it about 20 minutes through Inception before being overwhelmed with boredom.
