Shrub: The Short But Happy Political Life of George W. Bush

When it comes to reporting on politics, nobody does it smarter or funnier than bestselling author Molly Ivins. In Shrub, Ivins focuses her Texas-size smarts on the biggest politician in her home state: George Walker Bush, or "Shrub," as Ivins has nicknamed Bush the Younger.
A candidate of vague speeches and an ambiguous platform, Bush leads the pack of GOP 2000 presidential hopefuls; "Dubya" could very well be our next president. What voters need now is an original, smart, and accessible analysis of Bush--one that leaves the "youthful indiscretions" to the tabloids and gets to the heart of his policies and motivations. Ivins is the perfect woman for the job.

With her trademark wit and down-home wisdom, Molly Ivins shares three pieces of advice on judging a politician: "The first is to look at the record. The second is to look at the record. And third, look at the record." In this book, Ivins takes a good, hard look at the record of the man who could be the leader of the free world. Beginning with his post-college military career, Ivins tracks Dubya's winding, sometimes unlikely path from a failed congressional bid to a two-term governorship. Bush has made plenty of friends and supporters along the way, including Texas oil barons, evangelist Billy Graham, and co-investors in the Texas Rangers baseball team. "You would have to work at it to dislike the man," she writes. But for all of Bush's likeability, Ivins points to a disconcerting lack of political passion from this ascending presidential candidate. In her words, "If you think his daddy had trouble with 'the vision thing, ' wait till you meet this one."

Sadly, I've only just now discovered the writing of the late Molly Ivins. I read this book and laughed... until I really started to think about it things, and then I wanted to cry. Past really is prologue-- Bush royaly fucked Texas and then went on to do the exact same thing for two terms in the White House. Ivins doesn't pull any punches; this books is smart, funny, and well researched. The cast of characters and anecdotes of Texas-style legislative quirks make this worth picking up. Plus, you'll have a hard time fighting the urge to work the phrases "awl bidness" and "dance with them what brung ya" into conversation for the next few days.

Ivans was a liberal Twat who injected her opinions into hard news stories, fuck her dead rotten ass. A fucking drunk till the end.

6 1/2 out of 8 years of Bush was pretty fucking good, he did a better job than the over educated Mr. Spock is doing.
Iraq is won, surge worked.
Bush did more to help Africa than any fucking Lib, I guess they only care about Blacks who can vote for them.
His Tax cuts helped everybody, not just the rich.
He was not the greatest, that's for sure but he has been meligned by a huge fucking propaganda machine run by people you might politicolly agree with but if you were around them (You meet alot of them around this town) you'd hate their cliquish, condescending asses and see what vapid hate mongers Libs really are.

She was an opinion columnist and injecting opinions was standard. She also quit drinking.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Came in to office with a surplus, left with a huge defecit. Sound familiar?

She also asserts that he was a no-show during his last term because he was getting "tutored" for the presidential campaign, she takes a few shots at him for this throughout the book. She seemed to think a lot of important legislation (education and environmental stuff) could have been pushed through the state legislature with his help, but he was nowhere to be found. She was really up his ass about not spending money on education. He took a billion out of the surplus and gave it out for property tax relief when Texas is one of a very few states that don't fund kindergarten.

Darf, she's an opinion columnist. She gives her opinion on things. You know, like Glenn Beck, but smarter.

Glenn Beck is going blind. Limbaugh is already deaf. If Hannity goes mute, balance will pertain
