City of God

Holy shit. Godfather meets Pulp Fiction meets NY Times.

Outstanding.

KIf you enjoyed that, you may also like Tropa de Elite, sometimes called Elite Squad. It's on netflix and excellent.

I would kill the Pulp Fiction comparison. City of God is a way better movie and can't really see many similarities.

Great film.

Norm-it reminded me of Pulp Fiction in the way one thread of a story wove around another and then headed out in a unique direction-the momentary overlapping of perspective and characters and then off on another story. That said, it was miles better than Pulp Fiction.

Fattie, thanks for the Tropa de Elite recommendation. I added it to the queue, along with City of Men.

Meh. Maybe my expectations were set too high from City of God, but Tropa de Elite didn't do that much for me. Felt like it never really got going. City of Men is coming up in the Netflix queue, we'll see how that goes.

Really? Sorry you didn't like it, I liked it much better than City of God. I thought Nascimento was a great character; at the end with the dealer is begging not to get shot in the face so he leaves pretty corpse for his mama, so he busts out the shotgun and spreads him out like jelly. That's core.
