200 million means couch can self destruct to his heart's content. I remember early on, and you can probably still find it in the WOD comments, he talked about how he would never sell out and would keep his vision pure.
Re: The couch thread
I just can't imagine @Fit, its goodwill and everything, could possibly be worth 200 million.

Getting the rights to branding, and most likely franchising, would likely be worth it...tzg wrote:I just can't imagine @Fit, its goodwill and everything, could possibly be worth 200 million.
for a little while.

Re: The couch thread
There is no way its worth that... that is a sports franchise price tag and CrossFit can't even fill up a small venue for their one big event of the year. The cash cow will run out one day, its bound to happen. We all remember the HIT craze and how that seemed to be all over the place, that died out... circuit training is just that, and people will start to grow tired of paying money to get certified to circuit train and learn how to do an air squat, which is something you can learn to do by a few youtube videos if you really need it.tzg wrote:I just can't imagine @Fit, its goodwill and everything, could possibly be worth 200 million.
As far as the HQ stuff goes, more and more affiliates are caring less and less about what they do and are in it just for fitness. I have talked to plenty of people in CF and this is the case for many of them who aren't knee deep in HQ.

Not even remotely close. Compare to $1B sports companies, franchises, etc., and see if it's worth 1/5 that. One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Re: The couch thread
Has it occurred to anyone else that the Reebok rumor may have been used as a fundraising tool to make private placements, like in the movie The Producers (the original, not the remake) selling equity to starry-eyed Kool-Aid drinkers who want a piece of the rock?
I mean, the RRG scheme was a great fundraiser, and got pulled off without any serious repercussions, this just seems like a logical way to keep the party rolling at the HQ tree fort.
Imagine the hilarity if, heaven forbid, Couch passed away tomorrow, and a whole bunch of silent partners came forward brandishing previously NDA-secreted contracts that state that they own, between them all, 2370% of CF. THAT would be a battle royale.

True that. There are some seriously sleazy folks working for and with XF.
Re: The couch thread
A little name dropping: Last weekend after CU whomped up on Hawaii, CU alum, former pro tight end, father of Seattle Seahawk's QB Matt and current Reebok Rep for NFL relations Don Hasselbeck dropped by the box I'm based out of here in CO. He had been making the rounds of area CF facilities informally reconnoitering. From what he said I got the impression the Couch hasn't been too interested in Reebok's overtures, but Reebok is very interested in getting involved with the X fit phenomenon. I recommended they consider designing a transforming pump weightlifting shoe that could also function as a running and box jump shoe.WildGorillaMan wrote:Has it occurred to anyone else that the Reebok rumor may have been used as a fundraising tool to make private placements, like in the movie The Producers (the original, not the remake) selling equity to starry-eyed Kool-Aid drinkers who want a piece of the rock?

And with another stunning way to force the masses to pay $600 for a two-day lesson on how to DNF but call yourself an elite runner, BMacNCheeze's site has gone through a mild revamp that effectively kills any past comments criticizing his training methods he sells to the masses. He was able to use that virus infection that killed his site along with @FitFootball a few weeks back to do this.
Forum: Gone. Too bad with this one since there were a few good threads where BitchMac and his fellow couch Wunder-wussy were being bitch slapped by a few people after they were doing the whole "Everything is @Fit/@FE" stance that they're known for.
Past WADs beyond September: Gone along with any criticisms. However, all of the butt-nuggets of wisdom that BMacNCheeze and Methcalves would spit out are also gone. This actually cripples them since their cock-sucking acolyte who went by the name "Kaitlin" on their forums would regurgitate stuff that the two douches would post up with dates of when they said it like it was fucking Bible passages along with saying, "Go to a cert!".

That's a lot of time spent on the CF Endurance site.friedquads wrote:And with another stunning way to force the masses to pay $600 for a two-day lesson on how to DNF but call yourself an elite runner, BMacNCheeze's site has gone through a mild revamp that effectively kills any past comments criticizing his training methods he sells to the masses. Re: The couch thread
It's seems that someone has spent a lot of time trying to figure out the aliases of the fine people here at IGX. I understand they couldn't figure out my clever code name.
Time to come true: I'm Dan John. I'm from South City. I went to Utah State and recently returned to California. I know my clever disguise was hard to figure.
By the way, if it is true that the person who spent all the time "decoding" this is the person I was told...I also have to thank you for it was you who gave us the greatest gem of all time, too. So, thank you.

I heard the amount of 200 million bandied about. I have no fucking idea on how Reebok would recoup their investment.

Re: The couch thread
I'm assuming that they will switch to a franchise system. How can the value of the seminars be forgotten? 2000 affiliates at $1000 a year affiliate fee (now $2000, some were grandfathered) is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm assuming that Reebok would probably be trying to buy out the whole thing.protobuilder wrote:What's the value of an "open source" company w/ no franchises and no defensible intellectual property?Quack Attack wrote:Getting the rights to branding, and most likely franchising, would likely be worth it...tzg wrote:I just can't imagine @Fit, its goodwill and everything, could possibly be worth 200 million.
Could lead into clothes lines, branded equipment, books, all that stuff. The sell out of the name could be spectacular.

Re: The couch thread
What are the assets? What do they actually own?
The company is run like a members-only tree fort, not a business. What do the books look like? Do they even keep books?
This is getting really, really good.
After the dust settles, the Community will go on. HQ, not so much.
If you spent five years in the bunker, how would you spin that on your CV when the time comes to hit the bricks?
