Re: The couch thread
I publicly frown on people doing OL in Vibrams. It's an inappropriate use of a tool. It's like trying to drill hole with a miter saw.

Re: The couch thread
So, maybe reebok is going to release toe shoes? Affordable vibrams? That would actually be a very smart thing to do.lasalle wrote:See, WGM? See what happens?Ed Zachary wrote:The trainee had no knee bend to get under the bar while sporting his vibrams, the instructor was actually doing an ugly muscle snatch, and they've both been doing @fit for a couple of years and they are still weak as piss and look exactly the same as the last time I saw them nearly 2 years ago. In fact man/boy looks to vein worse shape than before.
What I think they are going to do is start a commercial @fit class for trainers to teach in health clubs and sell equipment. And you know what? Trainers with actual knowledge of anatomy and physiology, progression and periodization, and SAFETY, might actually do a better job than some of the affiliates. And, with showers, bathrooms, and child care, far more people can do intense circuits without having to leave the comfort of their health club.
Oh wait, people are already doing this. Every gym around me has a "functional fitness" class and they are doing the same exact stuff.
@fitters keep talking about the "community" and how its so hard to leave. Well, other people join boot camps, take classes at their health club, and have weightlifting/running/cycle/hiking clubs for the same reason. I don't understand, will the @fitters not be friends with the folks who left? In my experience, no. I have quite a few friends who own affiliates and/or still work out at affiliates. From my side of things, I'm seeing more and more @fitters branching out and doing other things. Eventually, they all stop identifying with it as a movement and more of a workout style that they occasionally use.
The masses are just waiting for it to come to them, all at the affordable price of the health club with all its amenities. And Reebok can make that happen. And they will.

I see this nearly every day I work. There are 5-10 guys who "do @fit". One guy is actually pretty strong, but the others not so much.Ed Zachary wrote:I watched a local @fit instructor and his man/boy do power snatches this morning while I was doing my split snatches. About a week ago as one fella was doing 185 DLs and about 18" box jumps while under the clock, a guy walks out and says "Fred times his warmups, too?" Fred didn't think that was too funny.

Link to the SS article on a local cult members FB page. Hilarity doth follow.

Someone attempts to be rational.Douchebag A hhhmmm. not sure where to start or if it's even worth it...read the article twice. still not convinced that CrossFit is bad for me. The author has some incorrect facts about CrossFit, ok understood, it happens. What's more disturbing is that there is a Starting Strength Seminar at a CrossFit Affiliate...maybe I missed something.
Sense Talker
Crossfit isn't "bad" for you, it just makes you suck at other things that aren't Crossfit, like... real lifting.
This is the important part:
Hard does not equal good. This type of training, while not completely useless, usually boils down t...o some form of flopping around for 10-30 minutes. There is no magic in this. There are also compromises that must be made if one attempts to integrate strength, conditioning, and endurance into the same circuit (which is common). Unfortunately – circuit training or not – if one tries to conduct strength and endurance training in the same program, neither will be realized to their optimum potential. This has been shown in numerous studies; attempts to combine strength and endurance training concurrently lead to diminished (or zero) gains in both. Thus, the training is ineffective.
And we're off!
Doucebag A there are just as many studies to prove otherwise or prove just about anything. So studies aside, I've yet to see anyone say "I've been CrossFitting for 1year and I am in the worst shape of my life" CrossFit does not claim to make specialists, its a general fitness program. 5x3 Snatches, 5k run, etc. are part of the programming, not added b/c metcons are ineffective. I don't mind the criticism, I would just like to hear it from someone who has given an honest effort at that which is being criticised

Did I fall, hit my head, and wake up in some upside down world where @fit is the only thing that's "hard" to do?Doucebag B Interesting read. He ignores a lot of variables when it comes to CrossFit though. Community is one. The psychological effects of overcoming something that was "hard" is another. These things are difficult to measure.
Also, I feel CrossFit is effective. My direct personal experience seems to prove this.
The author seems biased and hyperbolic at times. The author comes across in a "take my word for it" kind of way.
If the author truly wants to contribute to the fitness world he should do experimentation with some exact documentation.

Don't you all know that there is only one way to exercise, and that is using what @fit teaches and only what they teach?
I mean they talk about open source and all that shit but when it comes down to it, they think they are the best shit since sliced bread.

"Hard" doesn't mean "effective." I can snatch an empty bar AMRAP all day until I have a stroke. It's not going to do jack shit towards getting me a snatch with bodyweight on the bar.

Got this e-mail from one of my buddies in Cali:
I saw a job posting in Singapore or something by Adidas regarding Crossfit/Reebok affiliates. If that ever happens, there is NO EFFING WAY that Reebok is going to be represented by bare-bones CF boxes. It would become a fitness franchise, like all the rest, where profitability trumps efficacy.

WGM, when I did my L1 Cert Gilson was telling us about how he took Sherwood through a workout using only a PVC pipe and he ended up in a puddle of sweat and urine (urine is my word, not his).
The people in attendance thought it was great, I looked at him with a puzzled look. I never got the emphasis on just kicking someone's ass for "work capacity".

yeah, it's like when drills fuck you up in boot camp with the 'overhead armclap' or 'cherry pickers.' just 'cause you have a near lethal dose of lactic acid bloating your delts doesn't mean you've done anything to help yourself.Ash Uber Alles wrote:WGM, when I did my L1 Cert Gilson was telling us about how he took Sherwood through a workout using only a PVC pipe and he ended up in a puddle of sweat and urine (urine is my word, not his).

What's disturbing is PanchoCero's flexidildo swallowing chick...looks like she's trying to unplug a stopped up drain or sumptin'. Not real erotic. But, I'd still fuck her.

Reebok @F Gaymes? If Reebok is promoting the Gaymes, then the local yokels can say bye bye to all their local dick swinging contests. There's no way in hell that Reebok is going to front marketing dollars for the big events and let affiliates hold their own contests without getting anything.Activate Partnership and establish Reebok CrossFit Games:Execute fully integrated marketing programs that drive awareness of Crossfit and Reebok Games in your market and elevate Reebok as a brand and apparel/footwear provider.

@Fers think "no way Couch could be stupid enough to make a deal with Reebok without getting professional advice." Well, folks, he is. There are no business people on HQ's payroll. Cousin Vinny is running the "legal" department, and the rest of the office is filled with Couch loyalists.
Affiliates, you are worried and you should be. Saran said that he was going to post a lengthy writeup in the affiliate section of the @F Forum. Send it to us so we can put it up here and tell you what you need to be afraid of.
Shit, there are more good attorneys posting on the Couch thread everyday than Couch had with him at the Reebok meeting. I imagine the meeting went something like this:
Now that I think of it, Bony Pudding=Stevie Janikowski
