How much to you want to bet it was a Jr./Assistant S&C couch that was running that workout.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. - Helen Keller
Re: The couch thread

Ya think??Chris Doyle, Iowa's strength and conditioning coach, could not be reached for comment.
Because the hallmark of a "good workout" is its ability to redline you and put you out of commission for days if not weeks or more.

Re: The couch thread
Talked to a local @fitter for the first time in over a year. We talked about the usual things. His injured back, pinched nerve, sore shoulder, excessive soreness from his workouts, how he can't do the workouts as often as he'd like due to injuries and soreness. Me suggesting he do more strength work and scale back the metcon bullshit and him staring at me like I'm speaking a foreign language.
It's sad for me because he is a great guy and could be a lot stronger, healthier, and happier if he'd just get off the kool aid. But even though he knows why he's hurting he can't convince himself to do something different.
His wife is a nice little andro broad though. Wish I could get some pics.

I've met Chris Doyle, been to the S&C clinic he puts on in the spring for high school kids, talked with him at a push-pull meet or two. Great guy. Highland games and strongman competitor. Definitely knows what he's doing. I highly doubt he was even in the gym.
They are probably squished under an Atlas Stone somewhere north of the Oakdale Campus by now.Holeyfraggaroley wrote:Theres a box in Iowa City where U of Iowa is. I looked at the couches there are two of them working on PhDs at the campus.

Irony, its good.
From the article on the Iowa team:
From the article on the Iowa team:
NCAA rules allow offseason conditioning workouts to begin this month, according to Fred Mims, Iowa's associate athletics director for student services and compliance. Mims said athletes can participate in supervised, two-hour workouts daily — up to eight hours per week.

There also is/was some non@Fit S&C joint in the Iowa City/Coralville area, big into "functional" stuff, strongman type things, I know they had an oly seminar with some Chinese guy sometime in the last couple years.
Not that this means anything. Just means I have lots of vague recollections about the city.

It's never a good thing when athletes who go into a workout come out "responding well to treatment."
"The way we're training college football players in this day and age is putting them at risk," said Anderson, also current president of the College Athletic Trainers Society. There is example after example of players being driven too hard, too fast and for too long in offseason conditioning. It's a macho thing for the coaches. It's a badge of honor for (some) players to throw up in a trash can
"The intensity with which it [offseason drills] is done is not sport specific," Anderson said. "The intensity becomes irrational. The intensity, if not the drill, is wholly, fully irrelevant to sport. It's just purely, openly punishment, not performance."
And yet Pukie and Uncle Rhabdo are just a couple of fun loving clownish mascotsWhen 13 players go to the hospital, all with the same condition, I'm not the only one who thinks someone should be fired.
