Attention Cultfisters: if your floor press is light enough that someone can pick it up and hand it to you in the bent over position, you might not need to floor press. See my signature for further guidance.

There is no excuse for this fence-sitting affiliates that talk out of both sides of their mouth not to do the same, anyone who says, "well the @fit name brings me business so I am not giving up my affiliate" but yet continues to bash @fit is a fucking fraud and a poseur. Leave the fold and be a man.
And canceling classes because of heat is a total bitch move. Soccer moms and old people are tougher than you think.
I remember a couple of years ago when I was weaning off the Kool Aid she did at benefit stunt at Long Island City trying 100 muscle ups in under a certain time period that eludes me right now. She made the cut.
But the 2 things that stand out in my mind are;
1. The whole thing was delayed because the Couch got lost on the way from the airport keeping a couple hundred people including honored guests (Marines and FDNY) waiting in uncomfortable conditions. There was an engine and truck company along with battalion hot shots standing around on the sidewalk with rigs blocking traffic for almost an hour.
2. There were 2 sets of rings set up so anyone who wanted to, could go up and do a muscle up with Gillian. The Minister of Disinformation and Censorship, Lynne sPitts made three embarrassingly comical attempts and failed miserably. The inner circle entourage consoled her as if she had just lost a child to cancer. It was a wonderful moment of Schadenfreude. And my last organized @fit event.
Too bad she's now trying to learn how to O-lift from Mark Rippetoe. Over on the Pendlay forum there is some videos of him coaching her and it's just awful. She's a talented person so she could probably be really good if she found a good coach.

Go crawl back to wherever you came from, cockbreath. You aren't someone I need to build any credibility with. I think he pretty much said Gillian went there to learn to squat from Rippetoe. Did I mis-quote him? Not so much. I don't give a fuck about his credibility. My point was simply that what he posted was bullshit. Bother to read shit so you know what you are talking about or STFU.
As for my opinion of Rip's experience level, he's got quite a bit imo. He also has some decent weight-lifting connections in Bill Starr and Tommy Suggs. If that makes me a fan, so be it. Do I think he's great or anything. No personal experience by which to judge, which is probably more honest than dickhead's comment.

I have decent connections to an editor at Muscle and Fitness as well as some of the best powerlifters in the world, that doesn't mean shit does it? Rip is a great coach for taking a skinny ass kid, putting him on a one-size-fits-all program and telling him "drink milk, pussy". Its almost the same as @fit.... take a dude, put him on a one size fits all program and tell him "eat Zone, pussy".
Gillian would have been better served going to Pendlay to learn the o-lifts rather than Rip, but she was too entrenched in the koolaid and probably believed the Rip overhype. Fact is that Pendlay can outcoach Rip in those lifts in the same manner that an Aussie team beat my club level rugby team 8 years ago..... by a fucking landslide.

I agree completely. There is some serious lunacy over on those boards, but largely due to the age profile and "noob-ness" of the group. But there is also some value there, but patience and a willingness to sift through the BS is needed. Mostly, the articles Rip posts are worth a gander (especially from the old-school crowd like Starr, Suggs etc.)Dan Martin wrote: Don't define the prophet by his acolytes.
I agree Pendlay may be a better Oly coach, but it isn't like there's a decent sample-set of what Rip can do with an Oly lifter. Looking at Gillian's vids from start to finish of her time there, she certainly improved technically imo.

Irregardless of the whole Rip/Anti-Rip debate, take a middle aged trainee who's got both a collection of physical dings and years of "@fit technique" ingrained in them and any coach will have a long row to hoe in terms of cleaning up that trainee's technique.The Crawdaddy wrote:I agree completely. Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Re: The couch thread
Rip does what he says he does..puts size and strength on kids who need it and don't have it. I have never heard Rip spout off about taking people to elite levels of anything. The GOMAD thing is pretty played out, you can spot those guys all from a mile away with bloat and skinny arms and giant glutes and fat stomach. He is a good coach at what he couches. He was one of the first to turn Eva T away and now Gillian.
On a front that will be more fun to watch, I got word from a so/so source that Reebok will be taking over ALL @fit merchandise for everyone and anything with @fit printed on it will come from them in the next year...no more affiliate's printing their own shirts. reebok is going to take that off their hands so they can focus on coaching!

@F affiliates will have to forget about all their "snatch" and "jerk" shirts once that happens...
