Restrepo

Post by Shapecharge »

Saw this Sunday afternoon. The movie is a pure documentary, i.e., there's no interviewer or reporter running around with them asking questions etc...just footage of young men trying to survive and do what they are there to do in the Korengal Valley that according to the movie no longer has a U.S. Military presence. If you were unsure of how things like this work, this movie shows up close and personal what men in combat go through. The chaos, bordom, insanity etc. Seeing them greive over the loss of their comrades will punch you right in the gut. No messages, no points to be made, no politics. Just the men and their time there. You should see this movie. You can figure out on your own what Restrepo means.

I will probably have to wait until I can get it on dvd.
Hopefully I should get the book" War" sometime on tuesday. The delay is because I live in Euorpe.

Just saw Restrepo. As for a review: what Shape said.

The CO, Dan Kearney, has to be the son of my old CO in the 2/75, Francis Kearney, who is now a LTGeneral.

I just watched again last week. More stuff needs to be done like that. How can anybody have anything but deep feelings for those guys, what they're doing and how they handle it?

BUMP - I'm reading Junger's book, War, now. It is very similar to Restrepo but he goes into a lot of detail on the science behind a lot of the action. Very good read. I will "pay it forward" if someone wants it when I'm done.
