Good choice, Lie-Nap, but what's with the big engines? Do you tow?
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Colleague of mine was recently rear ended in a Santa Fe. Hit hard enough to be driven into the person in front of him. The offending car was truly damaged. There was some minor visual damage to the Santa Fe's bumpers.High Velocity Lie-Nap! wrote:That, and it's not edgy and hip like a Mini Cooper is that OWS'ers zip around to. That said, I picked up a 2010 Outback last Friday and love it.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=granolaGranola 79 up, 82 down
A middle age/late age suburbian white man or woman who is usually middle class that values natural things. Granola people, dispite common belief are NOT hippies and have normal houses and familys. They are extremely Left. A Granola person can usually be found in nature or at L.L. Bean.
A Granola Person usually drives a Subaru Outback, Volvo Wagon, or a Hyundai Santa Fe all with Thule roof racks for their skis, bikes, or kayaks.
My Mother, who is very granola.
me:"Ma, can i borrow the subaru to go to my friends?"
Mom:"yeah, but be home by 6. I'm making seaweed raviolis...oh yeah, i left my skis in the car, can you bring them in when you come back?"

We've had the Volvo Wagon and now the Santa Fe. I assure you there is no crunch in our world, then again, we do shop at Trader Joe's to supplement the Costco runs.Turdacious wrote: A Granola Person usually drives a Subaru Outback, Volvo Wagon, or a Hyundai Santa Fe
Re: Ford Flex vs. Subaru Outback
Just because alot of granola types or libs buy Volvo's does not make it a pussy car.

I just spent another $385 bucks on my 940 turbo wagon today. Damn thing spends more time in a shop than on the road. I am not granola, motherfuckers.

Yes well I am in a bit of a conundrum.. have a 335xi which I really like but its getting toward the end of the warranty. This car is a dream to drive, responsive as fuck, looks completely benign but it has balls. The torque is ridiculous even at like 1500 rpm. Problem is I have had this car in the shop at least 5x since I bought it new in 2008. Nothing major but stupid shit like motors on both mirrors, a recall on the injectors, a front strut... Not a big deal but it is like $1000 for this stuff if it is not under warranty. Looking into the future I feel this will get expensive once the warranty runs out. I looked at a bunch of stuff including the outback. I think the outback is a fantastic car in particular the one with the larger engine. I'll probably end up keeping the 335 cuz its paid for. If I trade it in it'll just be a double ass rape. (I'll get raped on the trade in plus I'll end up with something other than a 335). I am going to see how much I can get an extended warranty for. Just emailed a bunch of dealers told em what I want and that I'll buy from the lowest bidder. By the way if you are in the market for a new vehicle pm me. I have a system I have used and several friends have used too. You will likely save a shitload of money and if your looking to buy end of december is the best time for sure.
Shut the fuck up and train
Re: Ford Flex vs. Subaru Outback
Finding an independent mechanic you can trust is a necessity if you're going to own a BMW out of warranty. The dealerships not only overcharge, they're also not as good at fixing things. My first 3-series was in the shop all the time while under warranty because the dealership "mechanics" never knew what to do unless the diagnostic computer told them what was wrong. The first time I saw what the dealer actually charged for service after the warranty expired I ran to an independent mechanic. That car was then trouble free until it was totaled in a flood two weeks after I moved to a new city. I immediately bought another 3-series that was too old to have a warranty, found another independent mechanic, and have been thrilled with the car for the past couple of years. (I upgraded from a 2000 328ci to a 2001 330i.)Sandman wrote:Yes well I am in a bit of a conundrum.. have a 335xi which I really like but its getting toward the end of the warranty. Re: Ford Flex vs. Subaru Outback
I've had a TDI for 3 years now. I average about 36 mpg doing day-to-day driving in and around Boston. Freeway trips are up in the mid-40's depending on time of year (Diesel changes a bit in the winter to prevent gelling, making mileage a bit worse). Plenty of size for moving, as I am able to haul the stuff I need until the movers arrive at a new location and still have space for the dog in the back as well.
No issues associated with the car. It isn't sexy, but it beats the shit out of the payment and gas for the Yukon I had before this. When the kids moved out, there just wasn't a need anymore. Just be sure you don't need to drive four normal people in one, as the back seat is really only good for kids unless you have a shorty driving. If they did the Passat in the TDI wagon, I'd probably be there.

i'm relieved to learn that you didn't get a subaru. if your wife drove what my vegetarian, birkenstock-wearing wife drives, i would fear that end times were upon us.
subarus are, however, excellent vehicles.
