rugby hits
Rugby 7's will be in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. It's big on the coasts and 7's programs are starting to make their way inland. It's time to start getting pumped about rugby in the states. I was lucky enough to go cheer on Team Canada at the RWC in New Zealand last fall and it was an unbelievable experience. USA represented well and had an OUTSTANDING game against Ireland on Sept 11. Support your local clubs.
I will use this thread share the videos that I come across.

introduction to some of the legends
I grew up idolizing Jonah Lomu
Sebastien Chabal is one of the toughest French Fuckers around
Tuilagi is Samoan. You've never been hit in rugby until you've been hit by a giant coconut headed islander. Boxing is big over there too.

I agree. Gotten run over by Samoans and Fijians.

Re: rugby hits
Hey Shaf, I am always impressed by the leg size of the islanders. When I ask them how they did it they swear it was from running and practicing rugby in the sand. The teenage islanders I saw over in NZ had massively developed quads at the age of 15. Was quite impressive.

Some front row love. Guys that wear #1 and #3 are built to run 5 meters with the ball, maybe 10 but definitely not 25.

The defender, world cup winner Piri Weepu, gets dumped on this attempted tackle.

Agree with that. The Arlington (TX) club had a host of islanders that had gone to Euless Trinity. They scored three tries on us with rolling mauls (without having to roll that much). Pretty damn disheartening.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:I agree. Gotten run over by Samoans and Fijians.

Samoans are agile rhinos.
Fijians are brutally strong gazelles.

Tongans are massive. I saw this guy play at World Cup last year. Absolute monster of a center. Luckily he never passed the ball which meant Canada could send three guys to tackle him. Alipate Fatafehi 6'3 250 lbsGin Master wrote:And Tongans?

The ARC was mostly Tongan. That's about what my counterpart (outside center) looked like when we played. It was a long afternoon.Jonny Canuck wrote:Tongans are massive. The pic is great. Dude on the left doesn't want any. Guy on the right decided not to tackle and tried the Three Stooges eye poke, which was deftly blocked by the Tongan.

Re: rugby hits
Thanks for getting this thread going again. I keep lurking on the forumz but rarely have time to contribute anything to anywhere.
After stepping away from the game again in May, I am now co-coaching the local Private University. We have a pretty good squad, dominating ball in hand and territory yet we can not find a way to score. Thus, we are 1-2 and it is extremely frustrating. We play a pretty solid team today and it is time for the boys to step up and show me who is tough enough to put on a good showing vs a high caliber team.
As I am new to coaching, I am looking for any quality training resources. any recommendations?
