Fixing You: Shoulder & Elbow Pain by Rick Olderman
Having tennis elbow for awhile now and not being satisfied with the improvement from following the advice in this thread, I searched for other information. I came across this book in my amazon recommendations and checked out the author's website. I liked what I saw and ordered the book.
Basically, he states that shoulder and elbow problems are caused by improper positioning of the humerus and mainly, the scapula. I knew this, but only had a few pieces of the puzzle and wasn't able to put them together until I read this book. He also stated that in tennis and golfer's elbow, its the rotator muscles of the forearm (supinators and pronators that are tight/strained from the improper shoulder position) that are the true cause of the pain (not the extensors and flexors). The information is very easy to understand, especially if you aren't good with medical terminology. The corrective exercies are also very easy to understand and implement.
After performing several of the exercises, I didn't notice any pain in my elbow at rest and only minorly if I moved it (probably a 95% reduction). If I let my shoulder/arm get out of position, the pain returns, but still not as bad as it was. I correct the shoulder position and it goes away. I can now do just about everything when I train, except pullups/chins w/o pain. Now the structures just need some time to heal.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with these issues. The author also has several other books in the series and is working on one for foot and ankle pain.
